Who Do You Think Is The Best Drummer?

actually, my personal favourite's steve gadd. but since he's not on the list, i'll go for akira jimbo.

virgil tires me after a while.

mike's a power combi drummer, but not my cup of tea.

dave's quite the oddtime king, but too obscure at times for me - esp his oddtime fills. it's just confusing.

RINGO STARR !

Right, that's a colourful 1st post, welcome to the forum.

I dunno who's the greatest but I like Travis Barker and Keith Moon.

That slayer drummer is crazy too.

Just because some guys can do double pedals for 20 minutes means he is the best? all u have to do is to give him some protein energized food and that's what a drummer will do for you...haha But Ringo Starr is the best,Single Pedal.Listen to "Tomorow never knows",you will understand...Drummer who likes ringo starr, pls contact me,have a band which requires ringo beat.

THE ANGRA DRUMMER.!!
donnoe his name though.. haha

and also Mike portnoy of DT.
actually travis barker is the only good talented player in blink 182..
sorry blink 182 fans..
just my humble opinion :D

Well, I didn't say he's the best. I just said that I like him as a drummer.

Seriously, I don't know how people can actually sit at home on a PC and start to diss people around saying they are overrated and stuff...

my first post =X haha

well i've listened to quite a few drummers
and these are the drummers of my choice:

Dave Weckl (love his style)
Dom Famularo (old...but si bei terror arr..powerful man)
Virgil Donati
Steve Smith (love his feel)
steve gadd
carter beauford (good feel)
akira Jimbo (went to his clinic..very nice :D )
mike portnoy
tony royster junior
buddy rich (too bad he can't read music...sad...)

~drummers listed are not in order of my favourites..they are juz randomly typed out~

ok i noe that i've mentioned too many drummers..but yah..these are juz my favourites..

yah and something about travis barker. i kinda find him a show-off. he likes to do fanciful stuff but he can't keep tempo. no offence to travis fans.. i apologise for any misunderstandings. this is juz my personal opinion. i only find 2 or 3 of their songs so-so.. no offence yea??

~peace~

OH I FORGOT!!!

Dennis Chambers, cindy blackman and vinnie colaiuta

yeah..they're all good..

juz read the earlier posts and found out that travis barker is 40+ yrs old?? like...for real?? i really didn't know.. yeah..about the earlier post i've written...i decided to make this post sound nicer about travis barker..so..here goes..travis is not bad =) aha.

i found out that alot of pple seem to "worship" portnoy..saying that he's the God of double bass drums and those weird time signature thingy...well i guess all the drummers i've listed are just as good and are able to do what mike can. it's just that they have different styles..and portnoy's style seem to ..i wouldn't say attract.. more like his style of music seems to appeal to the likings of most pple. that's y many pple think he's the best.

well i think we as drummers should learn to accept all kinds of styles and genres..we shouldn't be competing at who's the best drummer in the world. every drummer has his or her own specialty in his or her style. it'll be good if we drummers can develop these styles. in my opinion, i feel that to be the best drummer..u gotta develop every style..(from classical to latin to metal) and be good at it. this is something very difficult to achieve. u don't see dave weckl playing metal although he has pretty good double bass chops. u don't see mike portnoy playing jazz. this is because although they can play it technically, they can't really make the audience "feel" wat they are trying to play..in other words, they are only "the best" to a certain limit.

sorry for the length posts..i suck in writing summaries

I didn't know Buddy couldn't read music. He's obviously excellent though.

What's the Akira Jimbo clinic like? I haven't seen him in action much.

yea buddy couldn't read music...he was like the drummer's version of mozart..he heard and mimicked...and slowly he composed his own drum solos which sounded really good. totally like mozart.

haha ok of course...THE LEGENDARY NEIL PEART!! haha happy?? yeah i watch a couple of videos...neil has a really amazing drumset..and if i'm not wrong..even a timpani and an electronic marimba??...fantastic drumset... the reason y i didn't mention neil cuz his playing was quite simple..maybe it doesn't sound that fantastic to me...but honesltly i only saw one of his videos..heh heh =X so i don't know much about him.

ya my apologies..it wasn't akira jimbo's clinic..it was a concert..haha but it was in a small room. so it felt like a clinic. ahah ya it was really cool he performed wif this japanese taiko drummer and it sounded really fantastic. and when the taiko drummer wasn't playing, akira was like a drummer and a dj combined together..he programed his drumset so that when he hit a drum, for example the bass, the bass sound and some other weird sound (which actually sounded good) will come out. he also programmed his tom rims..so when he hit one rim..one note will come out..he also fixed electronic pads to his drumset..that's how he played his solo. so...with the rims and the drums and the electronic pad combined..the driffernt notes fromed music and he played drumset rhythems to help the music flow...

haha sorry if u don't really understand wat i'm saying. haha i think it's kinda hard to picture it the way i've juz explained.
i recommend that the next time akira comes to singapore again u all should go..it's really really really good. i was slightly doubtful at wat he was gonna do at first..then...it was juz spactacular..haha i blab too much..

out..
