Who Do You Think Is The Best Drummer?

nuts

seriously, i think all the drummers mentioned above are really good. I couldnt say which is worse than the other coz honestly, when we hear they sounds on tracks, its what is required from them during the piece.

We would never know if Steve Gadd was drumming for Slipknot, or if Dennis chambers was drumming for Blink182; or Jimbo for Angra. The fact that these peeps are already so well known shows that they are of some standard.

I think all of them deserved to be respected. And, wad we like are strongly inclined to our own tastes. So its really not a question of who is the best drummer but, who is your favourite drummer.

I love Portnoy's playing, but being a drummer myself for 7 years, his not the only one who blows me away. And more importantly, drumming is about the passion and enjoying yourself. So who gives a damn whether other's disagrees with what u FEEL.

When Steve Gadd was at his prime in his career, Travis wasn't even born yet i think. So i doubt he influenced as many drummers. Please suggest someone who is of age, you'd have a better guess at least.

I don't believe most guys were inspired to play drums because they saw a clip of steve gadd. Inspired to create better stuff, yes, but start drumming? Not by a long shot. To me, start at Barker, end at Gadd... and the others.

I'm talking mostly about this generation of drummers, really.

i'm not a drummer, dun know that many drummers....but heres a few i like...

Virgil Donati [Planet X]
Mike Portnoy [DT]
Dave Lombardo [Slayer/Fantomas(awesome band!)]
Martin Lopez [Opeth]
Brann Dailor [Mastodon]
Tim Alexander [Primus]

I think that most of my generation's drummers, (i'm a JC kid btw) started playing cos they watched some kickass punk or rock music video, and thought "Whoa, if i could drum like that guy I'd be so cool", and then they start to pick up drums as a means to be 'cool'.

However as they progress in the field of drumming, they start to find that Metallica's St Anger isn't all that good as they first thought it was. They start to realise that there are by far better double-bassers than say, Joey Jordison? Then they will start to appreciate the less mainstream but the true kickass players. I don't need to name names, all of us know who they are.

This outlines the process of the transformation from a fan into a musician. Simple as that.

jojo mayer, steve gadd, dave weckl, mike portney, chad smith, adrian young, tico torres........a lot dude!

hahahaha i wanted to drum all thanks to Keith Moon from the Who, he made drumming look so fun and shit, ah my taste in drummers are like 60-70's...Buddy Rich is way good btw

Looks like only rock drummers are very popular here. If you guys saw how Antonio Sanchez played last night with Pat Metheny, it would change your mind on the definition of 'best drummer'.

i think metal drummers are killer. but portnoy would be best. and dream theater, they're all from berklee. everybody is super pro. so shiok. portnoy's instructional video doesn't really instruct. you watch it to like depress yourself.

i dun do drums. but i think tha best drummer is John Keeble from Spandau Ballet. and from their videos i see that he uses a lotta electronic drums.

portnoy all the way. he's like a monkey - feet and hands are paralleled. but i really favour thomas lang.

also steve gadd, dave weckl, buddy rich, vinnie colaiuta.
