Which yamaha guitar

I'd say go to SV and tell them, my budget is 500. Give me all the guitars you have thats around 500 and test till your hands bleed, THEN choose

Hahaha nice one lemonade yeah that's a good idea. You could also tell Mike what kind of tones you're looking for and he'll be able to narrow it down for you.

Yamaha Nut

I proclaim: I am Yamaha Nut through-and-through. I use to own 8 Yamahas at a go at one point in my life.

The Yamaha these days are pretty disappointing though. I only stick to the Japanese / Taiwan ones.

If you can hunt for a MIT (Made in Taiwan) Pacifica 112, it should be pretty much worth your while. Super versatile, anything ranging from Jazz to Pop to Blues to Rock and even Extreme Blacken Satanic Death Metal - that baby pretty much delivers.

I have at least 5 (Pacificas) came in and out of my life, but I am keeping mine. Till death do us apart. I am so proud of my 112!

P.s. Don't tell my wife I said that.

Good luck with yout guitar hunt!

With massive respect,
TF

those people who diss yamaha must have not tried the mit and mij yamahas.. only tried the mic and mii ones.. so they don't know what they are missing out on

Most of the younger ones here have not had a chance to try the older ones. I agree that the MIJ and MIT ones are far superior to the current incarnations.......the stock pickups in the old ones were so much better. The current ones have pretty muddy stock pickups (still better than the Ibanez INF series though) and of those i have randomly picked up when at Yamaha to while away time, 50% of them had intonation/setup/buzzing problems. Poor.

haha. yamaha guitars are really really really well-priced. i'm not talking about the mii and mic ones, but the mij ones. for less than 1.5k, you can get a guitar with really hot humbuckers and coil tap, not forgetting it's vintage.

back to the topic,
i wouldn't recommend buying something that you haven't tried. that's what everyone needs to know. try first. you like it, you buy it. go around try different guitars. it'll be a fun experience as well.

Totally agreed. Two Horns up! \m/ \m/

Remember the Yamaha MIJ SGs? Holy cow batman - they kick some serious a**.

well, cause im looking at starter packs and dont know where to buy any which is better, unless u can recommend

Be brave and skip the "starter pack stage". Good stuffs normally do not come in packages. Unless it's high quality Chap Chai Perng (Mix Vegetable Rice). LOL.

You best bet: IMHO: Hunt for a used MIT Pacifica 112 (get it set up if necessary) less than $150 - $200 usually / Get a used Boss DS-1 around $50/ used Solid State Vox or Peavey or Line 6 amp for less than $150- and you are ready to (rock &) roll. All yours at 400 bucks tops with resale value!

Just my thoughts for your consideration.

Best,
TF

as i said, i am looking at starter packs as it is more convenient and will be upgrading to a better one in about a year, just looking for one that is cheap and sound acceptable...

why buy a cheap one, and upgrade again next year when you can save money and buy something that you won't need upgrading?

For the price, its one of the best sounding and best looking LP-copies out there. It'll be a keeper for sure. Maybe you'd want to start telling us exactly what tones you want out of your guitar, then we'd be able to suggest suitable guitars for you.

its ok, cause my budget increased and can afford to buy a better one. and btw, can anyone explain to me what is the difference/what type of music are suited for H-H, H-S-H, S-S-S and H-S-S

Just because a brand is unknown equals to it being inferior? I personally think that the Rallys and Smashes come close to the older Yamahas in terms of value-for-money. The stock pickups on those are stellar for the price range. Have YOU tried a Rally before?
