Which pickups?

Hi all, i'm going to change my pickups on my strat. But i'm not too sure on what to put on. What are you guys reccomendation for the a super single coil vintage sound?

P.s. My main priority is a strong vintage sound for funk like playing, then hum cancelling or noise reducing pups.

Actually most single coils(if you buy in a set), the middle pickup is reversed. So pos 2 and 4 are hum cancelling.

But if you want noiseless, then it is a different story.

my recommedation- Vintage Noiseless

Yeah, I agree. Personal preference I guess.

Without the "hum/buzz" it somehow lacks the single coil feel. Ha, then again it may just be me.

Anyone here have Texas Specials/Tex mex? Thinking of getting them, they're good lead pickups no doubt but not sure when it comes to rythm. Some pickups I've came across with nice lead tones suck pretty bad for rythm, the mids are just too much.

Cheers!

Poolo: without the hum/buzz is still okie with me, i find the sound to be particularly thin. i need some thick & juicy tones, wat would u recommend for my case?

sorry for the mess i'm causing...wanna borrow your thread

any recommendations for a tele bridge pickup which is slightly hotter but still retains the twang? it'll be a plus if it can match up with the stock mim tele neck.

thanks

Consider the Dimarzio Cruiser. Edo83 has them... Andy Timmons uses them, fat and punchy... looks cool too... and can be used for extra frets...

awesome.. Cruiser for all position?

i tinking of grabbing some YJMs & HS-3 if there is an end of the year sale..

Well to be honest I only tried a set of texas specials on a mexican strat. It belonged to my friend and there is this big difference of "before and after" thing.

Round, thick. If you're the lead type of person it is definitely nice to own one set.

Tex Mex has this vintage sound, heard it over the net. If you dig that "thin yet round" sound it should suit your taste.

Then again it is just what my ears tell me, you may disagree

Too bad there ain't any tex mex for sale in Singapore, except 2nd hand or shipping in from other countries. If not I'll definitely buy it, put it in and try. These things comes through trial and error, it may/may not suit.

Well.. Andy Timmons has it in the neck and middle... Edo83 did that too.. he's a fan! :)

The Cruisers have a nice tone to them... if you listen to youtube vids of timmons, its pretty much that. Check the vid of a gtr mag lesson.

Set.. maybe i hook up with edo83 someday to try his Strat.. how about the bridge? any hot output single coils?

Oh yeah, some reference for you.

SRV - Texas Specials(in his later days)

JRV - tex mex.

Ha texas brothers.

if you wish for a no-holds barred single coil tone which sounds good with high gain settings (albeit the typical hum): Duncan Quarter Pound.

TZ single. Or Super Distortion single.

How's that for hot?

Edo has a dimarzio Breed in line with his Crusiers. Timmons has a custom Dimarzio AT model, based on the breed bridge. The Crusier and Breed bridge combi can balance... so you might want to take that as a guage for ouput/how hot your bridge pup can/should/will be.

Hmm.

Sorry to hijack.. but since this guy also looking for single coils. I wonder what would be a good replacement for my MIM fender tele neck pup? I play blues rock and country.

Sub, correct me if I'm wrong... but the higher gain you use, the louder the hum right? Due to the compression...

So ideally if you were playing heavy metal (with single coils, I dunno why but...) then the hum, wouldn't it be unbearable?
