Which electric guitar string brand can last long/tahan lama??

i use curt mangans and i swear by them. i have previously used d'addario, dean markley and ernie ball. none come close to curt mangan. firstly, curt mangans have excellent quality control and consistency. up to now, i have never bought a lousy/faulty set of strings. secondly, curt mangans have amazing feel. my style of playing involves tonnes of bending and the strings don't snap. i have never had a string snap while playing live. come to think of it, the only reason i change my strings is due to age! before i changed my strings 3 weeks ago, i changed it last in september. even though the tone slightly dulled after about a month of frequent playing, it was good enough to use for a studio recording and multiple live sets. this might be a personal preference, though. another plus point is that it is insanely cheap! at $5.50 per pack, it is way better than strings almost twice its price. i use curt mangan nickel-wound 10s and i have been for the longest time now. you can buy it from guitar77. i'm not sure if any other shop sells it, but that's where i get mine.

i guess for reeeeeeeeeeally long lasting strings, elixirs are the way to go. i've never tried them mainly cos they're outta my budget for strings, but from what i've heard they're really good.

dime:

it is? haha. i havent bought new strings in quite some time. the last time i changed my strings, i used strings i bought last november.. well it's still way cheaper than many. and way better!

yea same thing happened to me too..
so i switched back to Super Slinky...

I like ernie ball, both regular and super slinky, using regular slinky on my les paul, using D'Addario (.011-.049) on my sg special.. i use the string cleaner (sweaty palms too haha) after i play everytime, but i feel like the d'addario rust faster than the ernie ball..

well i find curt mangans last longer compared to ernie balls or ehx or d addarios. however they tend to give a stiffer feel compared to slinkys, which i feel feels more crisp when doing bends.

However right now im using DR tite fits, and it seems to have outlasted all of them so far. Drs for me can go about 1 and a half months b4 losing the crisp feel and they haven broken so far, holds up pretty well. only changed them cos they felt old. The strings are also stiffer so they stay in tune better but at the expense of a stiffer feel.

I've used Everly B-52s and they're great! I use the 9-46s.

BUT they're a bit expensive so I'm probably gonna go to GHS. Ernies are nice but my tuner doesn't react well to them..

Hmm.

Currently all 3 electric guitars I own have been out-fitted with Everly B-52s, 9-46. I've settled on them after going through:

DRs, rather expensive and didn't like the feel.
D'addario XLs, nice feel but died out too quickly: 1 week.
GHS boomers, nice and bright but ate frets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
GHS stainless steel, same as boomers, but much brighter.
Curt Mangan, cheap and didn't turn black easily, but tone died after 2 weeks.
Fender bullets, just plain horrible and cheap-sounding.
Gibson Brite Wires, nice and vintagey sound, but died quickly too: 2 weeks
Ernie Ball, nice feel and tone, my fall-back brand in case B-52s are not available nearby.

That said, I have to admit I'm quite a basher. I'm not about tickling the guitar, and I also take care of my strings when they're not played: string cleaner or a wipe-down after playing.

The B-52s have that fat tone that bring out the sound of my guitar clean or driven. Hence my vote :)

lol ate frets for breakfast lunch and dinner? wierdest metaphors used to describe what strings do to your guitar frets just yet.....LOL

The DR's aint that expensive leh, i got them for only 8 bucks at Beez, cheaper than B-52's. true i dint like the feel at first cos it was rather stiff (like curt mangans) but it retains tone even when strings turn black and it stays in tune pretty well even with serious whammy abuse on my bridge (i'm using a fender strat non-locking vintage type)

EHX and daddarios die damn quickly i agree. maximum 2 weeks (even when i wipe string cleaner all) the EHX was particularly bad. While the strings had that smooth slinky feel like ernie balls and bright attack, black gunk tends to accumulate underneath the strings and the worse part was it couldnt be wiped off. And it was difficult to do long slides accurately cos the strings were so gunky and stick, and my fingers would slide off the target note by one or 2 frets.

Let's not forget that aftercare plays a big part in prolonging string life too. If you want your strings to tahan, you can try wiping down your strings with Fast Frets after every heavy playing session. Also, try to keep your guitar in a dry place where it won't be exposed to excessive amounts of humidity (and consequently, moisture).

Another silent killer I've encountered time and time again is a very simple issue; leaving your guitar alone for too long. Try to pick it up every couple of days to do a few runs, and remember to wipe down your strings afterwards.

Actually, I find Ernie Balls are probably like...the best? Well to me it is...Nice tone and really cheap...Just have to take care of it real well like wipe the strings every 12 hours or something or it's gonna rust really quickly...Ernie's are the way to go!!

+1 for curt magans, cheap and long lasting, someone said something about the PH of your skin acting as a rusting agent and different string metal compositions will act differently with diff skin/sweat types...

another theory is that all string comes from the same wire manufacturer and that if you think taht brand A strings sound better than brand B strings it's all psychological.

but to me i've found that curt's brand last the longest for me- 4 weeks and going strong!

also, i've got to reccomend this product called "DR Extra Stringlife"

bought it at citymusic, bloody expensive though@ 18bux for a small bottle, but a little goes a long way... i just use a spectacle cloth and dab 10c sized spot on it and wipe the strings down after each session. 4 weeks later still silver! :) If not... i think it's only 3 days before my strings turn to the darkside.

+1 to DR Tite-Fits, i been using my current 9-46 set since last
March! Been jamming 5-6 times, 3 hours at a go, plus daily practice of 20mins-3 hours, depending on time available, i'm only 16 as it is. I wipe them down with Dunlop 95 string cleaner after i play. Until now, the tone is at 25%, string life at 50%, fret life while using strings atill at 95%! I like their bendy feel, bending's a breeze with these strings and they've got that round tone, much like Everlys. Sure the strings are dull now, both in tone and appearance but what the heck, they have lasted almost a year! For the price, this ain't expensive at all! Yes, i admit that i haven't tried other strings b4 but i assure you, this will be one investment u won't regret.
