hi guys...im interested to get a gibson guitar...any recommendations where to get good ones in guitar shops at fairly reasonable prices? thanks!

Do check out Peninsular plaza and Bras basah buildings!
Some popular names like Guitar77 at peninsular plaza
and Sweelee/blackwdguitars at bras basah.

Not saying the rest of the shops aint pricing fairly but its 1:20am, i cant think properly
haha

everywhere also have Gibson guitars. Swee Lee, Guitar Gallery, Blackwood, Guitar Connection, G77 just to name a few. walk around the Peninsular area or just order online.

Do bring an experienced friend along with you..
Quality of Gibsons nowadays are truely *bluekk*..
Have to search hard for a good one.. But when a good one comes, hell its too darn good to let go..

ya...I thought I'm the only one who thinks Gibson's QC has dropped although they are MIA. Tested a few LP studios and they vary a lot so much so that the worst one is comparable to Epi's Custom LP. Not sure about Gibson acoustics though...

haha, the funny thing being when i first discover bout gear forums thingy bout 8-9 years back, which was already pretty late compared to some others, as a newbie, i remembered seeing comments of gibson qc going down, only the oldies the goodies, etc when talking bout those geetar...

heh, maybe if theres anybody who already reading bbs board or those older newsgroups back in the 90s, can chip in if already then, people been talking bout bad qc of gibson

so sad that the first decade of y2k gonna be over soon. Guess in the next decade of 2010 onwards, there will still be another batch of people like the batch before, who love geetar much, talking bout qc going down..

lets use what pap used during the election on gibson geetars!!! MORE GOOD YEARS!!!
(adding mine) HUAT, HUAT HUATTTTT AH!!!!

Reasonable and new seldom go together.

I never had a Gibson that I truly bonded with. But I have to say that the QC in the last two years have gotten better.

go to swee lee and decide on the guitar u wanna buy.. wait for the 50 percent sale and buy a tent or a sleeping bag. the day b4 the sale, camp outside swee lee to ensure the guitar u wanna buy won't be sold out.

orrrr, u can buy it online

IMO, the whole negative thing about Gibson's QC is blown out of proportion. You often get people parroting what others say about Gibson, although some of them have not even try playing with it long enough (or at all) to make concrete judgement. Some just pick up one or two pieces from the rack, inspect it, strum it for a while, and conclude ALL Gibsons are bad or have bad QC.

For me, it's more like picking up 10 pieces, and discovering that only 2 are decently built. Or rather, picking up the only 2 or 3 pieces available in the store and all have issues.

And having to pay $5k for a AA top when I can get a AAAA top for much less from a PRS?

i would think the problem is that most would just say qc suck my lau hia eh lampa bad, but never seem to say why is it bad in a lampa of my lau hia way bad, thats wrong!

Good point... usually, the guitar IS well made, as in, the neck is straight, the tuners work, the pickups work, etc etc... But those inlays and frets are scary... or even the binding is badly done... very sharp. And sometimes that nut slotting it really badly done. Like, they don't even slot it deep enough, and the low E just pops out when you bend it.

Then again, Fender is also mostly worse. That's why I've given up on both... hahahahaha...

What you said. There's alot of things that I can tolerate but bad fretwork is not one of them. If the frets are dressed or cut badly, there's basically very little you can do.
