well, im just asking which is your preference it

let say, you have a band webpage..

what you gonna do??
my suggest is
do acoustic for few months
after a few gigs then go for a huge impact _ Making an EP

by then your band have already alot of friends

am i right???

***so what are your suggest***

hahahah u kidding me? why not do both at the same time :D in that way.. by 2008 u could be rockstars already.. \m/ or 5566 /m\

hmm..if your band do record like 2 song for the price of 100-120

then do an EP???

don't you think it's alittle bit waste money???

record a song, get some gigs, get paid then when you get more famous keep saying that you guys are gonna make an EP... Come up with band t shirts, pins and stuff like that to sell to raise money for the EP. By then, many people would want to have your band's tunes playing through their mp3s and want to get their hands on an EP. No point recording an EP when your band isn't very well known... Then lose money :\

oh...okok..

ok..meaning gigs organizers will keep on look ??
on both internet and reality???

thanks i find Right reason

most EPs consist of a few songs..you could always record a track or two put em up on myspace and gauge the response before commiting to an EP or album..

imho majority of the locale indie bands, from 80s/90s to now, do music, record, release ep/cd coz they have the passion and prolly wanna leave a statement for their life at that point of time. Along the way, there be chances to make lotsa friends, havin laughters, fun and good time roking out. It shud not be about just wanting to play gigs or get famous or get loads of money. For every one 2 bands that step out of singapore and gotten their sound heard overseas, on the radio, there are too many who are still struggling to be in the band, playing own original music and continuing to do so

sometime, when we question ourself whethere is it worth it or not, perhaps theres not straight answer. As we go along, each step by each step doing something, its still better than pondering too much over can we make it or not. If dont make it, will we give up and move on to other things or continuing to do music coz for the simple love of wanting to have your own melody, legacy or even just satisfaction of creation.

in this age, having the internet, perhaps from the start, we dont even need a physical cd to present our own composition. All the networking tool are there, waiting for us to utilise and make full use of it.

end of the day, making music should not be just weighing bout worth it or not IN THE BEGINNING, just go ahead and do what ever it is possible and perhaps the road will open up infront. Be sincere when making friends, sometime we might just wanna play gigs and thus having the notion of wanting to gain then make friend. Perhaps its not wrong, but in a small circle here, its more about helping one another, giving lobangs here and there, got music, we rock, got beer we drink.

as for gigs organiser, perhaps some do keep a look out, but utimately, its up to individuals to go to them, not empty handed, but at least a product, something that you can showcase and let them know, hey, this is my music, have a listen, critisized, let me know where i can improve and do help to spread words around if it aint too troublesome.

maybe after all thats dont, it wont work out, but at least got try and know/see how it is like.

Anyway, above just imho and from a bedroom player point of view, if its bullshit, then it is, ifs there something useful, just take and use..

ok..i learn alot from you...

hmm..Bedroom player..hahaha..that's 100% useful...
thanks...i hope you have a nice weekend<<

If you were to record a song(and dare to showcase/distribute it around for ppl to listen), please make sure it's of professional quality.
Some bands pass off bad sounding song(s) as their demo, really spoil the Singapore market. And ppl willl continue to say our music no standard cos those particular bands too "chin chye" about their demo quality.

Disclaimer: This is just an example. Not pointing fingers at anyone.

Usually, demos are demos. That's it. Most bands are not able to cough out a budget to produce something of decent quality. So sometimes the end products do not come out sounding like what the bands want. A chicken and egg issue. You wannna sound good; pay more.

Bro Pathein bro, si bei emo leh. Not enough beef in your diet issit? Let's go Aston's soon!!! Get your album out soon!

Really everyone should just go ahead and do it. But at the same time be prepared to realise that maybe your stuff isn't as good as it can be.

hmm..but can't we do an EP Straight?if we have the money<<

i mean like..doing an EP then like once it's on sale,it's gonna be a huge impact
for both the bandwebpage and in local music

am i wrong??it's like let your band go for gigs atleast for like 4-6 months and once you know that you have a group of people that actually listen to your songs..

then you go record<<<<<<<< Is that not a good plan??

or record an Demo< let say 2-4 tracks> and just alittle boost for your band webpage
Is better??

sorry guys...but im really confuse...cause some stuff are not written in books when"WHAT'S BEST FOR YOUR BAND" take place..

so yeah...more advice!

money is an issue. do you have the money to go into the studio and record the tracks, mix them, master them, press CDs and print sleeves?

even if you have the money- do you have recording experience? if you've never had experience recording even a single song (i'm assuming you don't), do you think you can do justice to your entire EP?

some bands record single tracks first so they learn how to properly capture their sound and style in the studio before embarking on a full scale EP or album. If you lose motivation or get lost halfway through recording your EP, you're going to waste alot of studio time and $$.

are your band members proficient? can everybody play to a click track? can the vocalist sing in key? what you think you can do does not equal to what you can actually do, so it's good to try out everything in one recording session first.

also, if you record an EP, who are you going to sell it to? Build and fortify a solid fanbase before you do. Sitting on a stack of unsold EPs can be very disheartening.

but at the end of the day, if you have the $$ to burn, you can even try recording a full length album at once and press a million copies

me and my bandmates agree on this- when you have at least let's say 200 people willing to pay at least $5 to buy your EP, then go down and record it.

oh...ok...thanks Visa for a very true teaching

i learn a new things from here

EP for $5???this is not gonna cover your starting recording total money..
think this is gonna be good if people that reply have recording before or make an EP and sell them..

THIS IS BUSINESS topic...alittle of advice = 100% understanding..

more more more reply<

This is gonna sound like an absolute bastard. But dude, I think what you need more than guidance in the music industry is actually to check though your postings for your sentence structure. I can't really comprehend what you are trying to say most of the time. Sorry.

Anyway, based on what I deduce you are trying to say. Doing your own album is business like what you said. But in business, why should I share my resources if you are not returning anything of value-add to me? It's like you are siphoning my information without any returns.

You and your bandmates reach a conclusion first and let others know what you wanna do. If you need help, come and post for assistance.

It's like you are trying to do a public poll on what your band should be doing. To be brutally honest, who cares? We don't know your band and have no vested interest at all. Such decisions are best made amongst the band members.
