Pedals because there's only 1 amp that has a distortion tone I really like, and thats only what I hear from CDs and Live recordings, haven't even got the chance to try one, so I still might not like it in the end!

i love the chug from Peavey 5150s and Mesa mark IV, but those are way way wayyyyy outta my budget, i guess i'll have to settle for pedals for now :(

definetly effect pedals + a clean amp drive. im still a fan of marshall overdrives tho', so sometimes i would switch to the channel with a footswitch.

but i would love to do it like zakk wyldde does, using the overdrive/distortion as a booster to make the dirty amp drive a screaming wailing machine of death...hehe

Hmm.

My amp isn;t that fantastic for cleans or dirt so...

Guitar (SG/tele) > booster (Boss OS-2) > OD (Daddy O) > EQ (Behringer BEQ700) > wah (95Q) > amp (clean channel)

Can get pretty decent sound. Setback is lack of 'thickness' due to amp's lack of 'thickness ability'.

FYI it's a Marshall MG 15CDR with all EQ knobs set at 3 o'clock, reverb on full, volume at 10 o'clock.

i gave up a marshall dsl 401 tube combo and a vintage fender twin for a bunch of pedals driving each other into a peavey envoy 110..but now i don't need to drag a heavy ass amp to gigs.

..tubes can't be beat for tone though :D

What's preamp+poweramp mean? Cranking a tube amp at full tilt and using an attenuator? Or is it a trick answer? :P

Combo = Preamp + Poweramp + Speaker
Head = Preamp + Poweramp

Now sure anyone play with preamp and poweramp
VHT, Mesa, Marshall, etc have preamp and poweramp.

Wonder how they sound?
