What's with the MWTS threads going on?

Hi,

Firstly not directed to anyone in particular - so chill out.

I have noticed lately there has been more Might-Want-To-Sell threads popping up. What's the deal with that? If want to sell means want to sell..if don't want to sell means don't want to sell.

Some reasoning I thought:

1. Testing the market - if so why not ask how much a 2nd hand item cost or look at other threads to see their prices.

2. Undecided - then don't sell loh.

3. Don't know what price to put - this means a person don't know the value of your equipment. So do some research as per step no 1 and get a proper price. Else try and put some prices... if no one bites..then you priced too high. If loads of people bite - you pried too low...hehe.

4. Need us to convince them to sell - um... so sad lah..not only we have to give them money but we have to convince them that they should sell so that we can give them our money.

To be frank, I find it a bit annoying. It's a buy/sell thread..and not a Might Want to Buy/Sell Trade. Imagine if we have a MTWB threads coming up.

Just having a small rant. Seriously would like to know why people post up threads like that? I am not slamming those people - just that I don't see a logical reason behind it.

Regards,
Andrew

I'm with you.

But in any case, I think all WTS/WTT/WTB threads are EFFECTIVELY MWTS/MWTT/MWTB threads, since seller always has the option of withdrawing the offer. So the M is redundant, at least in my opinion.

As someone else posted in another forum...

"Everything is for sale, at the right price". - Michael Douglas, "Wall Street"

It's bidding, but w/o committment, and is more "controlled" somewhat.

It's perfectly logical, whether it's right/wrong is another debate altogether.

Yeah - agreed. But as least 99% the WTS sell threads have prices on them.

With MWTS threads - sometimes we have to do the guesswork how much we got to pay. Cause we don't even know what price the seller is willing to sell it...if he/she is willing to sell it at all. So we end up shooting all sort of prices. Point being that so many people make effort to enquire & write only for to be turned away. I've done lots of correspondence and Q&A only to be turned down later..when the person does not wish to sell. Of course it's their right not to sell. However I wish that they made up their mind in private before they do their decision making process in a public forum.

If he/she is undecided - don't post it and waste people's time. I might sound harsh but it's frustrating to deal with people like that - and some people who have WTS threads are also like that (though this is pretty rare).

I came up with another reason - assurance for the gear. If lots of people want to buy - then they'll keep it. If not many want to buy - they'll sell it. It's good to own gear that people GAS for..haha. :)

For me it's simple - if I've got the cash I am out to buy.... not to play games with people who might or might not want to sell. If I don't have the cash - I am out to sell...haha. Unfortunately life is not a simple as that ;)

Agree with you, it can be frustrating.

Look at it this way, potential buyers can/should also do their homework on the item, decide their target price range, and approach the seller with that in mind. If the seller says no, too low, for e.g., then either you up it by a bit if you wish to, or just leave it.

If buyers do their homework, they probably won't anyhow shoot for prices. Shoot once or twice within their own budget, still cannot, then cannot loh.

Like thor and urself said, the M could v well be redundant.

I have stuff that I have hanging around that I don't use. I might want to sell it. I don't need the money, but if someone is interested enough in it to contact me then I might entertain the idea. Sometimes people actually message me and ask me about gear that I have not advertised that they've seen in my pictures. If enough of this kind of gear accrues and I'm bumming around one day, i can't see anything wrong with posting it on a forum to say I might want to sell it. I also might not. Depends on the price and ease of the transaction and sometimes my mood.

If it bugs anyone that the posts are there, then perhaps you Might Not Want To Click And Read It, after all nobody is forcing you to. Too much policing of public forums goes on IMHO and people saying what others can/can't or should/shouldn't post. People all differ in the way they use forums and there is no one 'correct' way. At the end of the day you have the freedom not to read it and so long as it isn't hurting anyone or doing anything offensive, others should have the same freedom to write and post it.

somtimes..i tink...

due to the nature of some softies..

a seller may put.."give me a reasonable offer" or smth in the likes..and not state a price..

the only logical explanation i can tink of is..due to some softies comin into their thread and flaming them for their prices..saying things like "u got it for cheaper now u selling it for more" bla bla bla..to "i can get it for like *half the price of wad ur selling*" and shit like that..

so the sellers are not exactly to be blamed.

dosent this system now remind you of a certain buy/sell website which replaced its old interface with a more "police-proof one" ?

people always find ways around system. that is why we need good people. hopefully.

Dear Mightwanttoseller,

I may be interested in your possible sale. On a scale of 1 to 10, how possibly maybe are you possibly interested in maybe selling?

Regards,
Mightwanttobuy
