Hey fellow softies..! What's ur top 5 picks for the best songs u've ever heard be it rock / metal / blues whatsoever? This question suddenly popped into my mind...Thought of sharing some of my opinions and yours here at soft...Do give the reasons for ur choices if u wish..

1) Blackbird by Alter Bridge

Reason: Beautifully written lyrics with a great meaning to it.. Myles Kennedy's amazing voice just shows here in this song. Plus the great riffs and beasty solo by Mark n Myles makes this one of the best hard rock songs imo..

2) Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin

Reason: The master of lyrical mystery, i've never been able to catch the true meaning behind this song.. But the great fingerstyle picking and the style of the song just makes this number 2 for me..

3) Watch Over You by Alter Bridge

4) Still Loving You by Scorpions

Reasons: I was spoilt between choosing Watch Over You and Still Loving You for my no 3 and 4.. Well, i think these two songs are equally good.. Myles and Klaus Meine's voice were amazing on these 2 songs so i couldnt really decide..

5) Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

Reason: A pretty sad and emotional song.. Love these sorta songs.. The great fingerstyle by Clapton is also one of the reasons that makes this one of my top 5 picks.. This song was written by Clapton after his son suffered an untimely death..

P.S. this is a thread to share ur opinions and not critcise or question others' opinions..thx..

Megadeth - Holy Wars
The riffs are insane and they're also fun to play on guitar

Machine Head - Clenching the Fists if Dissent
The song structure, riffs, drums and chanting vocals are simply mind blowing

Trivium - Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr
It's pretty much the song that made Trivium one of my favourite bands. Nuff said

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
It's a song that never fails to make me wanna bang my head \m/

Protest the Hero - Heretics and Killers
I'm a sucker for catchy tunes with complex song structures :D

1) Thunder Wrath by Arthemis
I'm so in love with the melody.. Power vocals too and insane solo.. First heard it when I was browsing through Download.com for upcoming artist and I became a big fan instantly..

2) Rescuing Rukia by Rosli Mansor
Yeah.. I know it's kinda outdated since the new album, but I just can't get enough of it... And will be playing on my hi-fi for like maybe, say 10 hours? lol Kinda get high listening to it and it's addictive too..

3) Kojo No Tsuki by Scorpions
Kinda a short live recording by them.. First heard it when Dad bought their compilation CD and it was the last track.. And it's a wonder that the best always kept to the last. Solo is so cool... Klaus Meine actually sang in Japanese... 5 \m/ for it...

4) Kingdom For A Heart by Sonata Arctica
This song really kept me alive every time I listened to it.. I don't know, I just felt so patriotic 'cause of this song.. I can imagined myself riding a horse with a shiny armour and sword.. Ohh well anyway, it helps me survived the NS years... :p

5) The Artist In The Ambulance by Thrice
First heard it in year 2002 when a friend accidentally put this song in my Celesty's music collection and asked him what song was this.. He knew it's by Thrice, but can't remember which song title, and so I did a little research on the band and yes, it's still tuning in my iTouch... Cool riffs...

1) Art Of Life - X JAPAN

a half hour masterpiece, really long addictive solos, and great song progression

2) Blackwater Park - Opeth

prog-death metal at it's best

3) Fullmoon - Sonata Arctica

i really love this song, really catchy and edgy song

4)I Remember You - Skid Row

love this because i relate to this song well, over an old flame

5) Gotten - Slash Feat Adam Levine

this is temporary, i love the lyrics, it highlights how i am unable to move on from my previous failed relationship lol

In no particular order.

'Mad world'
Originally by Tears for Fears, but I personally prefer the version by Gary Jules. Just a really nice, beautiful and meaningful song.

'Thunderstruck'
By AC/DC. Just a really epic rock song with a killer intro.

'Watch over you'
By Alter Bridge. Just a really beautiful song.

'Zoe Jane'
By Staind. I love the lyrics. Being a victim of bullying, I find that this song has a lot of meaning especially if one day I have kids.

'Sometimes you can't make it on your own'
By U2. Another beautiful song.

1. Domination - Pantera
Basically the song (and band) that still makes me believe that Metal today's alive

2. Still Got the Blues - Gary Moore
Soulful vibrato......and some other stuff I can't remember for the life of me. Excellent tune.

3. Blitzkrieg Bop - The Ramones
Punk anthem that harkens back to my days to a particular boys school in the East. Nolstalgia!

4. A Thousand Faces - Creed
Although I didn't really enjoy all of Creed's latest offering, this song did speak to me on quite a personal level....one of their best lyrics they've written since 'What's This Life For'.

5. Burn the Witch - Queens of the Stone Age
Awesome stoner rock tune......though some Softies here might disagree with my choice of classification. Nice slide guitar parts in here makes this a good listen on a continuous basis!

It's Incubus. Nuff said.

Dream Theater - Another Day
SRV - Couldn't Stand the Weather
Porcupine Tree - Train
Buddy Guy - Midnight Train

Happy? by Mudvayne
First of all, angsty and head-banging. Then comes the ridiculously cool basslines from Ryan. Lastly, effin' superb lyrics. Some of you may say "Nothing too superb about an angry song" but hey, I could totally relate to the angry lyrics. To each his own.

Redneck by Lamb Of God
"This goes out to my friends from Mastodon 'cause they are a bunch of f*ckin' Rednecks!" Need I say more?

Laid To Rest by Lamb Of God
Awesome guitar riffs and squelling pinch harmonics. Angsty. "See who gives a f*ck!" Seriously, need I say more?

Thinking About Forever by P.O.D.
Beautiful but sad song. Lost my granny a while back, and I could totally relate to the song.
"But I stay strong, you taught me how to move on in this world
I married my sweetheart, even got a little baby girl
I wish you could see her, I swear she looks just like you
If you can hear me, show me a sign, please send her a butterfly or two"
Seems like my granny will never get to meet my future baby girl/boy, but thankfully she did get to meet my sweetheart. =D

Change The World by Eric Clapton
Just. Epic.

Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine
"F*ck you I won't do what you tell me!" Another one. Just. Epic.

my current top 5..

Orait..might be out of topic, but it's hard for me to choose my top 5 songs i ever heard. All songs to me are beautiful.. Ayw..here are the top 5 that i've been listening to lately.

1. This Is My Heart - McAuley Schenker Group
Micheal Schenker went through a lot of ups and downs in his career. His work with Robin McAuley produces lots of commercially-driven hard rock songs. I've got a few favorites from them, but this one repeats more often than the rest in my playlist.

2. Love Walked In - Thunder
An English rock band that enjoyed much success in Japan. Came across this song in a compilation album, got hooked to it ever since. Pretty much love the "attack", going from slow acoustic pick and pluck to sweet and juicy distorted guitar. Love the vocals too!

3. Sails of Charon - Scorpions
Scorpions sounded different with 3 different guitarist. With Uli Jon Roth, Scorpions have a little bit of the neo-classical metal bite. The intro of this song says it all, got that "viking and dragons and dungeons" vibe..

4. Easy Lover - Phil Collins & Philip Bailey
A smash hit in the UK and stayed at the top for 4 weeks and was num 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is just a classic with a good vibe and vocal line.

5. Foolish Beat - Debbie Gibson
Shania Twain's my number one and cute miss debbie gibson my number two! Pretty much love the chorus part. The bam-bam-bam thingy.. But the overall song is lovely, reaching the top ten in UK Singles Chart.

Cheers!

Lamb of god - Set to fail
Pantera - Walk
All that remains - This calling
Dream theater - Honor thy father
August burns red - Composure
Lamb of god - Ruin

this kinda thread never fails to lure the old school hard rockers/metalheads out.
