When it comes to cable you have to ask yourself: should a cable contribute to the character of your guitar's tone?
If yes, then the search should be focused on which cables give you the right tone. For example, Vox has a series of cables that specifically caters for electric guitar, bass guitar, and acoustic guitar.
(I personally would avoid such cables cos that is basically making your signal chain into a one trick pony: you can only get the best sound from a specific instrument, but that's just MY opinion)
If not, the search should be focused on which cables give you the best unadulterated sound ie flat and balanced tone.
Also you should consider cables that are well shielded so as to avoid noise created from other electrical devices.
With that, my thoughts are...
Monster cables? For the amount of cash you spend on them I can buy a good pedal! In fact, some cheap cables can produce decent enough sounds eg Samson.
Planet Waves just sounds way too brittle for me. Not enough warmth, not enough mids, and too much treble even when the treble in my eq setting is turned low.
I personally use Ibanez cables. Good value, noiseless and a balanced sound.
Of course you can also consider making your own custom cables eg
RDM or Beez.
