1) Go ikea. They sell individual piece of wood. Those are tough, heavy when put together. If just a bedroom wanker and wont be bringing out the board, it will work.

2) Go stake out industrial estate, look for discard wooden crate which companies used for shipping their equipment.

3) Search thru HDB rubbish chute and be an eco warrior by recycling old furniture stuff that others throw away.

4) To join pieces of wood, ideally, you will wanna use joints(url=http://www.google.com.sg/search?hl=en&q=different+wood+joints&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=]here[/url]. If no equipment or time, then settle for wood glue and nails.

5, optional) Forget bought diy-ing a pedalboard, spend some money and buy real thing. All the grand idea of diying a pedalboard will end when thinking about how to bring the board out, for future expansion(gigs, jamming etc). The board itself, is very easy to do(with right tols of sawing machine, drills etc), whats lacking, is the case which will hold the board.

What some diyers used are old travel suitcase. It works, but sure its fugly as hell, unless individuality be it in looking cheapo counts, then yeah, go for it.

One more thing, if the board is made of good quality wood, most of the time, just the board alone with no pedals, can already be quite heavy. Add on pedals, power supply etc, thats extra weight. Again, if just bedroom wankers, then fine. If wanna think about future expansion, then do get a proper pedalboard(which come with own case, be it soft, hard, ata approved ones etc)

imho

for the wood...
if u choose all hard wood it would be weighty
if its a softwood the surface easily get marks and scar and it'll easy to crack if u dont give it reinforcement like a skeleton frame under it..

u can mix it... from the 2 of it.. maybe using a hard wood on tops(where your pedals attached)maybe 'bout 12mm - 15mm thick ... and soft wood for its frame under the hardwood blank to reinforced it (u can place it in horizontal and vertical bracing u can adjust it ) the thickness all the same 12-14mm.. don't cut the wood under 10mm thickness ... it'll b easily to break or crack
