what sticks do you guys use?

I have used:

Zildjian 5A DIP Sticks: the rubber will tear off after awhile. N then it gave me blisters.

Ahead Joey Jordison sticks: Perfect sticks for me. It looks cool and feels great. Really light too. But i stopped using it caused i wanted to keep it as a collectable.

ProMark Carter Beayford sticks: Perfect sticks for me too. Light and easy to roll. The extra length(compared to Zildjian and Joey's sticks) is comfortable. Most prob i'll be sticking to this.

im currently using:

Vater Hickory 5A<--- These sticks easily chips, and only made many chip munks in my room, a warning to all not to buy em... it won't last a heavy hitting drummer!!

Unigrip 5A sticks<--- Pretty okay sticks, good for those who have butterfingers thanks to the rubber grip. Thought they dent easily, but its pretty good:D.. cheap too!

Steve Gadd Signature Vic firth<---- They are pretty good but they chip pretty easily, so not so good lah... quite ex too at around 16 bucks a piece.. thought are damn light.

im still in search of the perfect sticks that is affordable and does not chip easily. wecklx mentioned about promark jazz new generation Japan oak. but where can i get em??

thanks!

Personally I wouldn't let a pair of Aheads come near to my cymbals or drumset.

Reason?

Ahead Company makes baseball bats and specialises in aircraft grade aluminium. True, there's a plastic sheath covering the ahead stick where it's in contact with your cymbals.

But think of about it this way... it still is metal on metal contact. Wrap a baseball bat in plastic and hit your hand. Hurts? Arm's broken? My point exactly :P

Regardless of what pro-ahead users may argue, stating reasons such as saving money in the long run, I'm still sticking to wooden sticks.

Btw i recall reading somewhere that the Big 3 cymbal makers HAD a clause in their cymbal warranties that stated something like they'll not by held responsible for any defects caused to the cymbal if the user was using Ahead sticks. I'll try to dig it out somewhere.

p/s: peace to ahead users... i'm just stating my POV..

Next the mike portnoy sticks are not bad, I used them for quite some time and I'm quite a hard hitter who uses a lot of rimshots in my playing. The only thing that I was peeved with was the fact that I probably got a defective pair and the nylon heads flew off within 2 hours of me playing on my kit. But the feel is great and the size is perfect.

Personally I'd prefer to use 5As (got a whole stick bag of em :P). Probably because I started off learning drums on 5As, and being the myopic drum n00b i was, stuck stubbornly to 5As. So now when I try out different sticks, I always go back to 5As, or Promark 5AS (Studio). The most radically sticks I've used so far would be Promark 5Bs and 5ABs (carter beauford sig)

stick life depends on the individual's technique also...like the way u hit ur drums and cymbals and such...

yeah.. but then no matter how good your technique is... when you rimshot too much your sticks confirm shatter and splinter haha. esp die-cast hoops.

but of course...sticks arent meant to last 4eva! haha

but a good technique will still prolong the life more then the bad technique...i think...

i love vater 7A mahatthan sticks, light and lurable and cheap, dunno is buy in bulk at ranking got discount or not...

eh dun think lazer and vater are from same company?

maybe i buy like 10 pairs of sticks in a roll, vater 7A are really good, one of the most durable and light 7A ever used compare to pretty fragile sticks like zildjian.

totally agree with you but for those hard hitter rockers like my friend, using a wooden stick will only last him maximum 3 bars... YES! u heard me right. 3 bars. he played REAL hard and by the time he finishes his 2 bars of simple "duk-tak-duk duk- tak", the stick split into half. "what da"...that was MY stick.

hm.. well he has a lot of money then. and there are vater sticks in bulk. however i believe they're come in a huge bunch, dont know about discount.
