What pedals do you use?

hm currently it's guitar --> modded big muff pi --> danelectro PB&J digital delay mini pedal --> DOD digital delay/sampler --> MXR Phase 90 --> amp

before the MXR Phase 90 i was using a george dennis phaser. i also had a george dennis wah, which was great but i don't use a wah much. i'm thinking of getting a morley because i like the way it engages automatically when you step on and move the pedal. i don't like having to stomp on the front end of the george dennis or my dunlop to engage and disengage the pedal. it feels really disruptive to me. took out a bunch of other pedals that i no longer use too.

i'm thinking of either a Tonebone or a GT2 or SansAmp Tri-amp. i've played/recorded with both the GT2 and the Tonebone distortion but i'm kinda undecided. recommendations?

yea it does have some hum with high gain. wad to do ah?? which chorus got no hum?

heh... well my bandmates always go "what's that noise?"

but obviously i don't care. the semi-digital chorus is just excellent to my ears.

btw did u know u can tweak a variable resistor inside? i lost the details of the tweak (was posted on harmonycentral last time) so i'm currently kinda too lazy to open up, tweak, close and test and repeat.

Hmm mine's simple..

Guitar -> DOD FX-100 (boost for more saturation) -> DS-1 Ultra -> Amp

I need a solo boost to go after my DS-1 soon.. I realised that when playing with a band my solos can't be heard very well. Aiming for a TS-9, dunno if it's necessary to get a Keeley modded one or should I just a plain vanilla one.. A DS-1 makes for a good boost too, wondering if I should just get a plain unmodded one as a booster.. It's cheap :D

Occasionally I got a wah right after my guitar but I don't use it much; I just plug it in for fun and pretend to be hendrix when I'm bored.. Bad impersonation cos I can't play his stuff for nuts haha.. Sometimes it goes after my DS-1 and I get this weird volume wah effect.. Again for fun. Wah's a JH-1 modded to a GCB-95 by yours truly.

Amp's a Smarvo 40w from mikemann, wonderful amp. Highly recommended! Only $190 for a 40w amp with a 12" speaker.

well i guess pricing, changing tubes and the sound u want are the factors to consider...

read from mrmisse forums that tonebone hot british is highly recommended. don't have any idea how good that is - cos i went to the tonebone website and found the hot british soundclips to be a little harsh sounding? classic sounds better.

tonebone - upside -> tubes! downside -> changing tubes! heh. and yea, you gotta protect ur pedal from hard knocks since a tube is inside.

GT2 - theres the old and there's the new version. if u want to get back an old version from a new version just change a few parts (u'll have to order online for the ICs thou) and u're done. Just do a search on the soft forums... i posted some stuff on the GT2 a while back.

never tried the tri-amp before.

the old GT2 sounds more classic rock (can nail ACDC's back in black easily), while the newer one sounds slightly heavier and modern. i wouldn't say that one is better than the other in terms of sound. both are good in their own ways.

any sort of pedals, by itself, should not have any hum at all....

The hum usually, come from guitar(pickup/shielding issue etc), other effect in the chain with the chorus, the power supply for the chorus(regulated/non regulated), amplifier which the chorus is in use with and so on. There can be many reasons other than just the pedal.

At worst, the problem could be with the circuit of that particular pedal and not in general, chorus pedal.

imho

thanks for the feedback thor! didn't know there were 2 versions of the GT2.

yup i actually recorded with the Tonebone Hot British through to a Matchless Chieftain amp, and i sometimes play it through to a fender hotrod deville 410. i'm not worried about the whole tube thing because i use tube amps anyway so it's already something i take into account. the Hot British sounds fantastic and works really well with my setup, i think. the modded big muff sounds great, but i think i may need something with a little less gain, which is why i'm looking at distortion pedals. i'm not sure which GT2 i've used but i liked that it sounds really beefy. for some reason the Tonebone didn't sound quite as beefy. i'm not sure how else to describe it. maybe it's just my eq settings on the pedal or something.

hey brundisium.

Its my CH-1 with hum. I put a distortion with high gain in front of it and it problem arises. when i took out the ch-1 or when i off it, its gone. only in high gain as i've said.

cheers

just to add.... the CH1 is very close to the range of a flanger. turn everything all the way and u can start to hear the swooshing sound already. :)

yes i agree thor... thats wad i notice too. it has abit of tremolo effect in it too. lol

btw wad are the few hot favourite chorus people buy??? the CE-5?

delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser/vibe are all in the same family, time based etc. Certain pedals can sound close, but never great sounding most of the time..

famous chorus include roland ce-1, tc electronic scf, analogman clone chorus and so on.

most affordable and not bad sounding, EH small clone.

Boss chorus, unless its the early roland ce-1 or boss ce-2, if not, most are cold sterile sounding....

imho

Heyyyy..is the rat2 distortion box you're using good?? Would like to know how it sound...

I'm using RAT2 too as my main overdrive/distortion (using MT2 as boost). Personally, RAT2 sounds really good...it can pick up your playing nuances and the distortion varies with how hard you pick...so, it's really versatile. It's not your metal pedal cos it'll sound buzzy/fuzzy if you turn up the gain.

Try all the different RATs and see which one you like...there's Turbo RAT (which I think is a tad too metallic), Vintage RAT (not really to my liking too), RAT2 and Deucetone (2 RATS in one...haven't got chance to try it).

yeah the rat2 is my main distortion pedal, tried the turbo and vintage, didnt like em both either, rat2's good! dunno how to describe the sound? but yeah u gotta try it if its to your liking

haven't seen anyone mentioned they like/using BOSS OS-2, find its a really nice distortion pedal, in fact its my main... and only one.
