hey im new to this forum as well to bass. intending to learn one. ive seen ppl mentioning stuff like MIA and MIJ or smth around here. wad are those? thanks in advance.

Hi!

MIA - Made in America
MIJ - Made in Japan
MIM - Made in Mexico

Usually in reference to Fender Basses/Guitars...

hi all thanks for the replies and help. haha wads gas? hmmm im looking for a bass, 4-string preferably. since im a beginner, any recommendations on models or brands or places to look for one? thinking of getting an ibanez one. my friend said ibanez is pretty gd for a beginner. i want smth that is around mid range in terms of quality and both pricing? not looking for smth too lousy nor am i looking for smth high end. haha thanks in advance.

I would say a MIM Fender would be good. It's about 500 to 600 plus. And definitely good enough that you dont have to "upgrade" to another bass after you move out of the beginner stage.

hmmm. im more looking towards a bass for alternative and rock as that will be the genre im playing.

wads gear acquisition syndrome anw? haha thanks

It doesn't really matter, as most types of basses around your budget would fit in well with the look and sound of alternative bands.

I'd pick the Yamaha BB414 and maybe even the Warwick Rockbass Corvette or Fortress over MIM Fenders, but MIM Fenders are fine too.
wads gear acquisition syndrome anw? haha thanks

GAS is a mental disorder that is common to musicians. Symptoms include the uncontrollable urge to purchase new pieces of equipment. The most common side effects are angered parents / significant others, deflated wallets, and loss of room space and hearing. Hope this helps! :D

MIS gear? Haha! Some quite shiok leh... Timothy... Maestro... Stillwater... But some quite jialat lar... TGM???

TGM singaporean meh?? ...

i'll be quite ashamed to have it called a singapore made product ..

i've got to admit that stuff like Maestro is making waves .. they've gotta improve on their quality control though .. e.g. glue sticking out of joints .. half-sanded and finished bodies .. man ... buck up maestro if you wanna conquer the rest of the world ...

i have a question, why do mij fenders have "crafted in japan" on that red tag on the guitar and also on the guitar itself? why crafted?

Crafted means the materials are from Japan, and the putting together of the guitars are also done in Japan.

Made in Japan means that the materials are from else where, but the putting together of the guitars are done in Japan.

They are actually two different things.

rylche ... yeah ... like how they would say a shirt is DESIGNED IN USA while it's actually manufactured in china or something like that ...

i've seen it before ... it's really lame ...

Yeah. What a shameless plug to get more of your money, aye  . Bottom-line for buying a new bass is to TRY and TRY! And let your hands and ears help you on your decision. 8)
