What is meant by "Pro" guitarist/bassist/drummer etc.?

those who play for money........

there are also semi-pro, those with day jobs but still play for money..

it is a good thing, play music for money...as long as don't be monetary focus, that would be fine...

1) Being a "PRO"duct that people are willing enough to fork out money for (read="hire").

2) Being a "PRO"duct of a recording/distribution company and selling millions of copies and getting famous through extensive marketing and promotions.

Neither of the two above is a bad thing, actually.

^If you define yourself as such then yes.

He did say "what's your definition?" So there's no absolute answer ;)

I play for money many a times. But never with my own band. Always a relief for some bands. Is that considered pro? I think more of a pro-blem. Hehehehe!!

I'd consider a person a professional if he/she:
- Has endorsement deals, or appeared as a representative, etc.
- Qualified to teach others, whether a certificate by a school or organization.
- Wide experience in his/her art, with an impressive resume of involvement and achievement.
- Earning from his/her art, probably as a main job, or a major side job.
- Would be paid to play live, not the other way around.
- Has his/her own complete gear (no borrowing of gear from others).

People have called me pro before but that's only because my amp's volume is usually quite low that they don't hear my many mistakes. I think 'pro' is used very loosely, as long as you impress someone, he/she might call you 'pro'.
