what if u break a string during a gig?

id be suprised if a bassist were to break his/her strings during a gig.you must have mammoth arms to strum and pop those thick bass strings.

Its quite easy to break bass strings actually....
I have broken more than i care to remember... and at least twice i can remember while on stage... I broken the A string while playing in church! (thankfully there was another bass on the stage!)

I also broken the thickest string (tuned to D in my case) during the first song of a show at Far East Plaza.... Lucky I had spare strings and someone loaned me a bass for two songs while my friend changed the string for me!

haha.. nopes. It was at the Substation Garden (now Timbre) where Fat Frog Cafe was still around a couple of years back.

ah i thought you were that dude who broke his e string few minutes after intro. i think the band was caracal. can't really remember. might not be them though. me and my bassist were like, "woah how can you break a bass e string" haha.
but yea. from then on, i realised it's possible

Actually I think of all the strings i've broken on the bass, I've broken the low E the most, followed by the A or D. I've broken a couple of G's but those are usually from fooling around with excessive bends or playing behind the nut.

But most common in-play is the low E, and it's usually picking/plucking that breaks it.

I find sometimes guitarists can be too stingy when asked to borrow their axes - not all - but many. Hope anyone reading this will remember to spare a thought for your bro who breaks a string and need to instant T-loan a guitar for the rest of the set.

i'm wif u bro fgl bro!

tis strings snap happened to me a lot of time too.
i try to improvise as far as i can. then after the song. apologise to the listeners.
go behind drummer and change strings.
my bassist and drummer will do their instrumental set while waiting for me.
and it surprised me all the time, they anyhow play and it sounds very nice!

I don mind lending my axe to someone who needs it...but they beeter not abuse my trust.

I once had a gig at tjc and the guy in the house band broke a string on his les paul. I lent him my strat for the rehearsal but during the rehearsal he started passing my instrument around to his bandmates like as if my instrument was some sort of comodity. look, if i lend you sth it means i only trust you and NO ONE ELSE to handle it. if you wanna lend it to somebody else and it belongs to me you better jolly well ask me first. the best part was when i came back to the rehearsal, everyone from that band had already packed up and was leaving except for some fat stranger who was still playing my guitar(he probably liked my axe so much that he couldn't put it down) and the guy whom i originally entrusted my guitar with was nowhere in sight.

This is one of the reasons why i think twice before lending anyone my axe. And they have to agree to my conditions first if i do.

Use ibanez ZR bridge which apperently doesnt screw up the other strings when one of the the strings break!

i won't lend my guitar to a crappy guitarist, someone who wears skinny jeans, or with oily palms. I especially will not lend my guitar to a guitarist who does not play metal, even if he's a friend.

Spot on bro!

it also dosent go out of tune like normal flyods when doing double stops and bends...and it has more sustain because of its "fixed" position...i like!
