what do I do to add "fullness" to a lead tone?

loldude333, I thought you said I had a good point?

If the guitar is thin sounding then we work with the guitar lah... aiyo...

Like I got a crap samick and I wanna have tone of Mr Vai, then buy all his amps and gear, supplemented by more expensive & boutique-er stuff? Weird right?

the guitar on it's own sounds fine, ibanez rg321 pickups swapped to EMG 81s.. got it second hand.

i'm using a marshall mg15. am still on the lookout for a new amp. eq settings are bass 12 o clock, contour(what kind of passes for mids, I guess) 8 o clock, treble 11 o clock.

i was thinking of getting a nano muff overdrive.. cause it's cheap and i <3 fuzz

Dude.

Erm.

Up the contour. Please.

Keep the GT2's original settings.

Up the contour.... try 12 oclock. Really.

Don't play first. If you have been playing, stop for 10 minutes, then adjust, turn on amp.

You have scooped out your mids, no wonder your guitar sounds thin.

The nano muff od isn't really fuzz as per Subversion's review.

I use GT2 (old ver.) and it kinda sounds alright for chuggings riffs and stuff but yeah when you play single notes, they tend to sound thin. I fixed this problem by running a TS7 after the GT2. The mid bump helps a lot. It also helps too if you bypass your amps's preamp and plug the pedals straight into the power amp.

it does sound different after I up the contour, but it's not what I was looking for.. my leads sound louder, but not much fuller, and my chug chug becomes too piercing, sounds a bit like glass crashing, actually

maybe "full" was the wrong word as i don't think the problem lies in the mids(or lack thereof), as despite my mids being low in comparison to my other controls, the mg15's equalization is not exactly distinct in the first place (especially the bass), so it's not as scooped as it seems.

i was thinking something like, a thicker distortion, like Steve Vai's for the love of god, the first few seconds especially, or the intro of Green Tinted Sixties Mind.. which was why i was thinking more towards a overdrive type pedal

of course i might be wrong but i can't experiment further cause i've been instructed by my family to lower the volume down so

Ahhh. Again, maybe I should put this under my signature, no pedal can be properly discussed without the AMP, the GUITAR and the PLAYER in consideration.

The MG15 doesn't go into my favourite amp list; far from it. I suppose the others who own the amp and have more experience can talk about it more. The feeling I get is, the GT2 isn't the problem here.

bro ...think you use effects loop better la..
but ur amp no effects loop right..?i suggest get an eq pedal..
i dun use lots of gain ...normally below 12o `clock

OK , everybody have not stated this ... check ur pickups is it far away from the string ... if yes then bring it up ... make sure u bring it up until the tone is full .... hehehe some opinion ...

Oooooops sry shreddy i wasn't thinking straight i guess. Work with guitar? As Goose mentioned, EMG 81's were made for lead. And Ibanez RG321MH(i'm guessing it's his guitar)has a nice thick sound. Prob the amp. Needs a lot of tweaking to get a gd sound. Get a Valbee.

loldude333... its okay... hmmm... eh... Get a Valbee? Doesn't a Valbee have an even smaller speaker than the MG15? Would it really sound bigger/better?

Hmm.

I used to use the MG15CDR (selling it off. go see the buy/sell section) and I have to say that unless you have a decent EQ pedal to help boost the bass and lower mid frequencies of your guitar, the inherent bass drive of that amp is not going to get you anywhere.

But it's great for practise... the reverb is very cool, and with some decent pedals, it does produce acceptable sounds.

Hmmm.........he does want fullness in his sound. In that case i suggest an amp preferably with at the very very least a 10" speaker. Best wld be a 2x12" combo but it wld be costly. A 1x12" wld prob be the best bet. I leave u guys to continue ur suggestions. Jus my 2 cents' worth.

i kinda fail to see its a problem with speakers size. Im using a 15w Peavey rage 158 to plug my gt2 into, and it probably has the same speaker size as his MG.

Like i said, bypass your preamp completely, and use ONLY your poweramp with your GT2, you want a flat response. In other words, plug the gt2 into your CD INPUT, like i did with mine. It did wonders with the tone. When i want a boost for solos from the mid scooped chugga-chugga, i run a TS7 after the GT2 to bump up the mids.
