hey guys,

jammed just now and the feedback was horrendous...
wat caused this?
its that irritating eeeeeek sound wen u kick in ur distortion.

There are few possibilities.

1 Might be too much pedals on your board without noise gate(which i dont recommend cos its suck your tone and harmonics)

2 cables quality

3 very often, a lot guitarist uses too much gain. try lowering your gains, bring up your mid.

4 might be your pickups high output, try not face the amp and in some cases it might due to static causes by the light.

cheers.

1st u need to know how feedback is cause, you pick the note the sound is picked up by the pickup and then goes into and out of the amp. so if the sound comes out of the amp and the pickup pick up those sound and the process just repeats and since it repeats sooooo fast that's where u get the feedback so based on this principle u can figure out how to control the feedback, and also diff pickup pick ups diff range of sound frequency better

its either your strings, cable, amp or pedals or a combination of any of the two. So check for rustiness and test your amps and pedals on diff settings. Not to forget, use different cables and test it out. Sooner or later, the eeeeeeek sound will go away.

normal operation
sound is pick up by guitar , send to amp, sound come out from speaker

feedback happens when
the sound that come out from speaker is pick up by guitar and send to the amp again. This will go on and on, causing a loop aka feedback.

solution
1. move guitar away from speaker
2. reduce the volume

the answer should be found in the many posts above. anyway do not aim a microphone at your guitars pickup, or aim a microphone at a speaker. nasty.
