i talk like real sial... :P

Ya, Agree with Wyldeboon Gst keep rising but why the salary does not??????They are real smart to hire those PR soon all the job will be snatch by them, Even those high salary....

I accompany my parents to hospital quite often. Twice a month at least. What I have seen are nice, friendly and diligent foreign medical workers.

Imagine without them, who would take care of us?

* editing of title is nothing out of the ordinary, I do that all the time on SOFT.

^^^actually true la... but not all of them.

there are banglas, filipinos, thais who r my frds.they work jobs tat sporean wun do.
like sweeper bla bla...
they are the un-sung heros!!!

Don't know lah.

These things depend on your luck partly, and how you play your cards right.

I have lots of friends who are doing VERY well.

Most of them in real estate, banking and sales.

Just talked to a friend a few days ago and she is not even doing sales in CapitaLand but she's getting 12 months bonus, and her salary is about S$4k, doing corporate communications. She says this is quite normal for real estate companies.

Another friend who is into land banking is like changing cars all the time. His latest vroom vroom is a sporty Alfa Romeo. And now he's telling us he wants to change car again.

And I agree with James.

Generally, I get the feeling that foreign workers take their jobs more seriously, and seem happy that they are working.

Those Filipino service staff, hospital workers - they seem to be smiling genuinely all the time. Rarely show you a black face as though you owe them money.

:D

Sorry guys, as a PR practitioner, this example is not PR. This is your government's control of the mainstream media.

and it is doing very bad PR for itself, and also dragging the very profession of public relations down with it.

How come you know who implemented the change in the title? Maybe rottenramone has some insider information?

So, this issue is just like our local music problem. We are our own device.

then why build polytechnics or university when alot of higher position in singapore are taken by PRs? what are their purpose in giving us a higher education when its hard for us to find a higher position job in singapore? I dont get it.. the boys will have a hard time migrating and find a job with their cert because of reservist.. the women will most likely be snapped up by PRs.. then why not rename this country "Foreignpour" ?

..

i'm not against foreign talent in the country actually. but personally i would set the entry policy a little more stringent other than benchmarking it against your net worth. i see the govt's problem is not of the attraction, but more of retention of the labour pool here. other than $$, what are the other factors that would convince foreigners to plant their roots here?

is NS for PRs the answer? no, i don't think so. it'll probably scare the foreigners away! So as a citizen who has done 2.5 yrs plus 10 yrs reservist, and that the govt seen as making more efforts to attract foreigners instead of retaining their current pool, it makes me feel a little unwanted. i meet friends (both PR and citizen) and they always talk about working here then settling somewhere else. one of my friends is moving back to aust to start a new life.

i'm all for a cosmopolitan society and i call it home here. i wonder who else does?

^^^actually true la... but not all of them.

they are the un-sung heros!!!
the banglas make our buildings go up... and the public berates them

filipinos and indons take care of our households (when we really should be doing it ourselves)... and the people view them in a negative light

but look at our china and vietnam ladies of the night! WELCOME TO SINGAPORE! some can't even speak english, how did they fill up immigration forms??

anyway, the singapore government only has themselves to blame for not producing quality skilled talent. it is obvious that the local education system is substandard. we are sending our best scholars overseas. others refuse to be bonded and go by themselves. and many of whom, especially from the latter group, never come back

well..... such a move or article will definitely rankle sentiments.

But let's put it this way, Singaporeans are picky.

We had the hardest time looking for help at entry levels, Singaporeans just come, think its below them and leave us dangling.

On the other hand, we have Indian, Filippino and even Taiwanese trained and educated colleagues who take their jobs more seriously than some of my fellow citizens do.

I think that some policies here are kok but given the current crop of "citizens" I am not sure what else we can do.

I think at the end of the day most folks here want to climb up high high , earn tons of cash without going through the ranks or learning the ropes. Well then, in that case, I will go with the foreigners.

Media control: It happens everywhere, in US, China, Australia what have you, so I suppose its a problem everyone faces, not just us.
