Hey my fellow softies i am embarking on customing my first elec guitar , bcos i cant let go of it (its sentimental) but i want to make it sound better. So im trying to change the pickups but one major prob i dont know wat to change to im using a strat copy, meaning three single coils. I want to change it but i think like to change it to humbuckers i need to cut the guitar n wat not(or so i heard) n it costs a bomb but i want to get that really heavy sound for playing. So wat single coil set or combo is good for that grunge /rock/metal/punk sound?I was caught by the seymour duncan hot rail series but i would really appreciate any help from fellow softies in suggesting wat combos or sets to get.Peace

yes they run thru batteries but you wanted heavy metal sound so the emg sa rightfully fits the description.

Coolcool will look it tt direction now .. any idea like wats the standard batt life , i know playtime will affect it(duh) but like if an esty if possible...??? Thanks for the advice man btw
: )

no problem man.fuzzman told me once his emgs sound dead after 4hrs of continous jamming .but if you unplug the guitar after every jam saves the battery a little more.check out duncans.they have great sound too.

I recommend Seymour Duncans

"Everything Axe Set -- combines an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. for the bridge position with an SDBR-1n Duckbucker and SL59-1n Little '59 for the middle and neck positions. This is a versatile set that will coax everything from vintage to heavy tones from a Stratocaster. Each of the pickups is hum canceling."

for a thick bottom end without mushing out, i get great results from Duncan's Hot Rails:

Woa dead batt after 4 hour jam Oo yet still ausome advIce dudes , edder any esty on the price tt combo would set me bac by ...? N sub the duncans look so freakin ausome but i just want to be like dead certain before moving in any one direction.

i was skeptical with ALL Duncans in the first instance but after trying more of them, i prefer them in my guitars to other brand names.

A Dimarzio S ToneZone might be good for you. My friend currently has a ToneZone S in his bridge position of a strat copy. I remember it sounded plesant, but I've yet to try his guitar side by side with my fullsized ToneZone so I can't really comment how both compare..

I used to use Tonezone or Airzone on quite a few of my guitars last time... damn mids heavy I must say but in any chance its way better that the cheapo regular humbuckers.

I gave this suggestion to you already bro.. Extreme tonal versatility, but I feel that the signature "straty" tone is lost.. I think its $200 plus minues 50 for it!

Anyways, for active EMGs, I feel that it has AWESOME drive, but the cleans are.......... Yeap! You get my drift!

Yeap.. That's too bad.. I'm the kind who prefers the vintage strat tone, as it has its applications! Leave heavy distorted tones to humbuckers..
I've given him 3 suggestions if I recall correctly..

1. Lil '59, Duckbuckers & Jb. Jr set
2. Hot Rails, Vintage Rails & Cool Rails set
3. EMG SA set
