i've decided that my next pedal purchase would be an eq pedal. however i have no idea wat makes a good eq pedal.

care to help and recommend some?
thanks :D

hey i'm selling a modded fish n chips EQ pedal. very good pedal for the price. it's even quieter than boss ge7! i changed the footswitch to a sturdy one, easier to press than the stock one. interested can pm me.

i dont wanna make an impulse buy 8)

so a good eq is one that is quiet? wat does this mean? no background noise/hum?

I personally find MXR 10 band EQs very useful, it quite and it also features a vol and gain slider, so its can handy when u wnt to use it as a booster. But i think the best thing about this eq is that u can sculpt any sound in detail given its 10 senstive sliders. Be it scoopin out the mids, killing the fizz on some distortion or just simply boosting the mids.

Just my opinions. Hope this helps. :D

eq pedals can be noisy at times but a quick mod will cure ...

havin a post and pre dirt eq is essntial for e ultimate tone shaping...but i find a parametric eq gives a faster fix ya ...

but... but... using an eq kinda diminishes ur fav guitar timbre 8O

after years of playing,i feel that the EQ pedal will serve those in need of definition. these days, the EQ unit is often mistaken for a 'booster' pedal per se; it is a frequency 'booster' (enhancer more like it) but it's averse to gain, do keep this in mind.

to me, a good EQ pedal is able to do the following without qualms:

*enhance/ diminish the target frequency convincingly
*doesn't colour the drive/ default accoustics too much, when engaged

this is the reason why i love the discontinued DOD FX-40B

there are too many selections today, some extravagant units even feature a tube in the processing circuitry but to anyone looking for a no-nonsense EQ unit, i recommend the following 2:

MXR 10-band EQ (the Kerry King version is unnecessary)

Behringer EQ700

i'll try out the behringer eq soon. was thinking of getting the danelectro fish and chips eq but heard comments of the switch not activating. that's why tany modded it i guess. :)

and i didnt noe a parametric eq pedal existed! 8O

hur hur hur....

those pedals are meant for those who wants and love the word WARM.

WARM SOUND!!! WARM!!! WARM!!!! WAAARRRRRMMMM!!!!

since we are on the topic of EQ, how many of us actually use EQ before the Dist, and how many use after the Dist, and wat really is the major difference between these 2 positions?

it will sound different.

before distortion, the eq pedal alter your clean sound frequency and then into the distortion to be processed.

after distortion, the eq pedal alter the frequency of your distortion. Not much clean sound frequency will be affected. Provided the distortion is always on

but then, do NOT take the above serious. Coz i dont even have any distortion on my board

Anyway, for eq, i wud love to see more para eq pedals than graphic eq pedals. Imho, the bass/mids/treble controls on be more useful to me.

i no use eq ha ....sian ha... too much too handle already !!

my pre is my guitar and post is either pedal tone or amp !!

my boosty (clean boost) has a bass & high cut function i prefer to an eq .... which to my ears too much coloration.

i sold my Korg MIJ PEQ-1 to nice fella  and he knows what i am trying say here .... i hope ...

But for those who wanna customize their tone its highly recommended !!
