Wah Pedals

I think you can find out which crybabys have fasels, from the dunlop website. :)

And yes, its just replacing whatever inductor within the wah to another inductor (e.g. a Fasel)

I just got one used. This is my 3rd wah. Much better than 535Q in my opinion. Good for modern rock tones and heavier genres. I especially like the switchless design which makes it basically idiot proof. 8)

i'm the exact opposite of u, i like the 535Q's range & tone better...but i hated the switch so i stuck with my Tremonti, thinking of gettin' the bad horsie II for the contour switch...

You like the sound of a red fasel?

Did you check the price? I think some shop in Penni has the Crybaby Classic for $225, but the original crybaby (no fasel) goes for $165.

1 fasel = $60. :)

Or you can buy the Keeley modded Crybaby for a WHOPPING amount of dough.

i dunno bout u guys..but i feel forcing my feet down during a phrase in a song is really disturbing. i prefer something thats like auto...turn on when u stomp, goes bypass when you don't...hehee...any recommendations? Had a V847 b4...like the sound but the pedal really changed my sound to shrilly

Auto switching wahs tend to suck tone in bypass. When you say turn on when you stomp, do you mean a seperate footswitch? Because that can be easily arranged for any wah.

Dunlop Fasels are in no way similar to the old Fasels apart from the name. It's just marketing. The Fasel inductors are not like resistors or capacitors. They don't have fixed values. One guy over at the diy forums took a bunch yellow dunlop fasels to measure, getting 150mH - 690mH. The old Fasels
measured sometimes 480-640mH, but the most of them were in the 500-540mH range. Also, the old Fasels were 'undesirable' and 'poorly' manufactored, such that they had some asymmetric clipping at higher frequencies. The new production methods have 'corrected' this flaw and so you have something that works perfectly, but has lost some of the mojo.

So they are not one for one. You cannot take out one of your inductors and put in another and expect your wah to magically become great. There are only 2 ways about it, you tweak your resistors and capacitors to suit the inductor you have, or you buy a pre-measured inductor perfect for your circuit.

+1
Its a sum of the parts for a wah pedal... if you yahoo "wah mods" you'll find this nice article about the way a wah works, pretty informative.

But on the topic of inductors, I'm going to purchase some inductors to muck around... the dunlop fasels aren't on my list but looking at the Ariel-fx Halo inductor and the Area51 inductor, for now.

A little aside, if I am not wrong, the Morley Bad Horsie wah doesn't have an inductor but its an op-amp driven wah? I don't recall seeing an inductor in my BH2 last time.

Had a V847 too, stock and one modded with a fulltone pot for better taper. Yeap, they sound thinish, big cut on the bass.

I use a Dunlop CB535, modded by Randolf :
- switch that toggles between red and yellow fasel
- 4way switch changed to 6way (one of the settings turns the wah into a passive volume pedal
- Fulltone pot

the red fasel sounds great with distortion, but ....
i find that the red fasel sounds abit too ... "thin" when playing clean or with abit of overdrive
and i feel it's not really a great difference from the stock inductor, unless you're playing with really heavy distortion.

I LOVE THE YELLOW FASEL ~!!!!
the warm fat wide scoop ...
and of course the taper of the Fulltone pot ...
i leave it on the yellow fasel most (almost all) of the time ...
:)

the only beef i have with the Vox847 is the sweep.
i find that dunlop wahs have a wider sweep than the vox...
")

how much is a bad horsie or tremonti power wah?
havent tried a switchless wah before and is keen to try one.

From tremonti tone his wah has a very wide sweep. yeah?

you have to ask Davis for the up to date prices.

Basically, the Morley wahs in the style of the Bad Horise, have a larger throw than the crybaby design. I prefer a larger throw, but at the end of the day, it all boils down to controlling, how much control you wish to extert on the wah to get to the sweet spots you want. The wah with a VERY small throw is the Zakk Wylde wah... I didn't like it but for high gain-ers and people don't wish to explore subtle wah nauces, its a good choice I suppose.

Note, the Morley wahs, usually don't sound vintagey, and neither do they do that "vomitting" kind of tone which some people love. They are more towards a modern wah, has less subtle tone touches.

i had a 535q before but sold it.
Bought it as all the controls attracted me.
Still prefer the original at the end of the game.

The original has a fuller and wah wah kind of sound i like.
whereas the 535q is too thin. Doenst pack the ooowwwwaahhh kind of thing and there's too much controls! you have to really spend ur time to hunt for UR tone.

I guess I just need something plug and play, love it or hate it.
