this might be a new term for me so forgive me if my termology fails here.

i stumbled into VP-550 roland keys, and this question came to my mind.
can i record say a vocalist voice and edit it in this keyboard?!

im really so interested in the VP-550 that i might buy it in a moment of impulse please advise!

this is because i recently use alot of voice pads etc for my composition and found that i got limited voice samples also its not realistic enuff. im using reason by the way.

lastly is there any other way that i can do voice editing. heavy voice editing what i mean is that you know sometimes a voice become digitalise. means it sounds robotic.

pls advise ;D

Wooo, slow down friend! Don't ever buy on impulse!

Firstly, hardware vocoders will be most beneficial in live situation. If your purpose is to perform on your keyboard while singing at the same time (and you want to add effects to your voice), then things like the VP-550 will be for you.

But if you want to edit voice in a studio setting, I would recommend software plug-ins anytime. I believe the Roland vocoder is included in Sonar 6, is it not? I believe Reason also has a vocoder as one of it's plug-in. Is it not good enough? If you want more powerful software vocoders, you can always get one as a VST plug-in from third-parties.

If you are using reason, do note that it cannot sequence any hardware synth. You probably would need to change the sequencer if you want to sequence the VP-550.

As for the 2nd question, of course a vocoder can get you that "Darth Vader" voice.

you know what i dono whats wrong with reason! grrr in my schoool we got those mac's cpu which is built within the monitor , i dono whats the model but u guys get what i mean.

i thot it was really strong. but you know what it lagged out and reason pop up this statement saying computer is too slow for use. hahas i guess i got too many layering . combinater take out alot from the CPU grr..

just my grunts sorry guys.

back to the main topic, yep i wanna do a live thingy with that vocoder, my originals worry was that it has many effects in it but could only edit the preset sounds, now i am relieve you can record ur voice and edit it as well . that will be really nice.

however i will watch up for more reviews before getting it. its a want but not a must ;D

zenguan, why would you want a UF when you already have a Fantom x8? The Fantom is good enough as a master controller; you don't need a second controller.

As for software sequencer, any one will do, depending on whether you're on a PC or a Mac. They all work the same as a sequencer and audio recording/editing. Cubase, Sonar, Protools are all OK. Logic will be the best for the Mac. Ableton is good if you want live editing.

If your purpose is to perform live with a hadware vocoder, then sequencing is secondary. Unless you want backing tracks. Anyway, you've already have Fantom x8 which has a build-in sequencer.

Actually, the VarioOS technology from Roland is quite good. Remember to check out the Virus and Novation.

thks cheez for ur input, i guess im just looking around for more options so i can be open to more sounds. :D

btw theblueark that device , is it able to store the sounds that we make?

Hi zenguan, what I meant was that adding an extra controller will not make much difference. Your Fantom x8 has the ability to control multiple external modules - it functions as a master controller. You can midi your vocoder to your Fantom easily and control from there.

Anyway, I'm not a vocoder user. But I've seen some pretty impressive ones out there. Keep us updated on your search!

theblueark care to share with us where you get that vocoder gear?

purchase it online or is there a singapore dealer?
