Hey man, I love your tone, but some parts when you went fast, it was a lil messy. But overall, its good! :D

Thanks man. Yeah its one mofo of a solo to get, the fast barring licks...i missed some of them. wasn't too ready to record...but friends wanted to see it, so what the heck. Was using a crunch box and boss delay for the sounds.

Hey nanoshred!

where did you learn to play this richie kotzen song?

I've been trying to listen to funk fusion guitarists such as richie kotzen and greg howe but just can't seem to get the licks and rythmn right.

Wa so old thread bring back from the dead.

Yousendit only lasts for 7 days man and i never reupload. Provided theres still people wanting to see the shoddy attempt.

where did you learn to play this richie kotzen song?

Half half by ear and half by the help of a transcription someone placed online.

Try using the barring method for some of your usual guitar licks like pentatonic and apreggios and use ur fingers to pluck the string below the one ur picking. It will make the same thing sound "different". Thats one of the many things they do.

A good one to practice that kinda rhythm for is Present-moment off the howe/kotzen album, project. Not too hard to get it by ear.

Bro, can you record the same clip but without top. Then go pump some iron to be like RK, Hugo Boss model can liao  But killer playing as always, still remember meeting you and chanmin back then....i can't even do chords and was still dreaming of playing guitar only

Hey, its good to see someone taking up fusion. Very nice, at least different from the tried and tired rock genre.

I thought the technique was good, I enjoy your sense of rhythm and that kept the improv interesting... I guess note choices was ... well... i think there's better! But then again, who am I to say that?

Hey man thanks for taking the time to check it out.

I'm new when it comes to that kinda playing still. Still a rock player trying to "smoke" his way through. Thanks for the kind words too.

How do you go about fusion?

I'm having a hard time... same like you, too much rock in me, its very boring.

I think rock is pretty much still as exciting for me. Just gotta be selective on what you hear for new inspiration. After all rock is one of the widest genre's. Quite a big part too if you wanna play rock/fusion. Thats also where having a good bluesy sense is important.

How do you go about fusion?

I just listen , find that phrases that i like or catch my ear. I'll try to sing it out then play it on the guitar. Get the phrase down, then find out which scale it belongs to or what combination of scales. Play it a few times in different keys also then just see how i can use it in my own playing.

Thats how i go about learning most stuff, doesn't apply to just fusion.

I see I see... personally, for me, I'm tired of the bluesy-ness, hence the drive to try something different. Rock has kind of gone stale on me, but, as you said, a select few bands/players still can "make it".

Well, all the best in your fusion endeavours... exciting path I say, the road less travelled. :D

The blue-s bit is probably one of the most important factors in guitar playing. Especially since you, yourself are very much into the lead guitar playing thing. No better way to work out your bends, vibrato and make simple phrases dynamic.

Look at steve lukather, allen hinds, mike landau. All blues based players who are able to almost anything. You can hear a lil bit of blues in everything they play. Richie kotzen, plays some of the best shit on his pop/soul albums like , something to say and wave of emotion.

Don't have to make it show in your own playing. But you can tell alot just by hearing someone bend and do a vibrato.
