Hi again peeps, it's been a long time since i last played neo-classical stuff. I think it was back in '94 at a gig at the old WTC Amphitheatre playing Malmsteen's "As Above So Below". But recently i was inspired to practise neo-classical again when my Primary 5 guitar student (yes, he is 11 yrs old!) asked if i can play Stratosphere !
When i was 11, i asked my teacher how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb on the recorder! Young kids nowadays?!?

Well, I've only heard of Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine & Joe Stump but not the band Stratovarius. So i took out my Korg Pandora PX4D, transcribed the
main intro riff, practised it for 4 days and 3 nights without peeing and barely managed to bluff it somehow and wanna share it with all of you, haha...
But i like the song and especially loved the torture it brings to my fingers during the process...

Stratosphere (Half-step tuned down : Eb Ab C# F# Bb Eb)

(...and pardon the crappy audio)

Nice work bro!!
Btw, how is this Korg Pandora PX4D thingy? Is it good to invest in it, especially to capture those hard to play or fast lick?

Woot!!! Bro that is very cool man! time to learn some neoclassical stuff from u!! make more lesson vids!! i love it!

nize.......c'mon guys, leave comments and rate his video. support the young talents of S'pore. !

oh, And make more videos dude... keep it up !

hi all, thanks everyone for viewing and really appreciate the nice compliments. Shredaholic, thanks, glad you like it. HarrisonYeo, it sounds similar to Scarified but to me Pablo Gilberto's stuff there is much more difficult. Learning Scarified is definitely on my list but i need to upgrade my skills first lah, haha. Once i'm confident, i'll surely try it one of these days (though its been a year i last said this, hee). Taylorboy87, i executed it "well" only after several takes lah, haha and btw i'm 35yrs old...

Jamu, the PX4D is a great little device if you ask me. I know some people said just use software to slow things down but i like its' portability (i can't lug my iMac out, hehe). It has good sound patches (editable) with amp choice (BLK2x12,AC30,UK80s,etc), Rhythm jam with drum&bass presets, Aux Pitch where you can match your guitar std tuning to any song key, tuner and of course the Phrase Trainer (PT)...all this packed into a walkman size unit. In PT mode, you can record up to 32secs of guitar riff and slow it down in stages up to 50% of the original tempo. All i need is hook up my mp3 (aux) and output thru headphones (or amp). The best part? Only S$198...i'll try to post sound samples soon here. But honestly, i'll use the PX4D to learn riffs only if i can't find it's tablature coz me one lazy fella lah,hehe...

NoMiS, alamak you want to learn from me ah? Haha, i oso want to learn from you leh? We can exchange ideas bro, no prob. I'm thinking of collaborating with you one of these days too. Once school holidays kicks in and i've got no headaches from my students, i'll PM you. D'arc~en~ciel, really appreciate your encouraging words. About the vids, anyone is welcome to post comments but please don't restrict yourselves to good ones only, haha. I'm not here to teach but just sharing with you what little knowledge i have. In any case there's errors in my vids/words, feel free to point out and share...Cheers !

Gambatte ne!!

hi pablo, rmb me? anyway cool vid. i wish i could be half as good as u. a few weeks back i went drinking with frends and popped by chijmes where u play but cannot see u play. u still playing there?

anyway, pablo imo is a veteran player. to learn that in just 3 days is not an easy feat. and pablo is not any young talent in his 10s or 20s. he gotta lotsa exp and played for live audiences.
