Unfaithful bandmates

damn that pretend to never get your sms is really common and real dumb.
there's another even better excuse, the stupid handphone spoil excuse.
funny how you would magically see thier phone repaired the next time you see them. hahaha wankers.

hope all those idiots that actually did it before would read this
and feel embarass or something.

seriously dimsum... i think they will not feel anything... i guess this thread is juz for us to vent our anger and letting other musicians who hv yet to encounter such act...

and also for ppl like us to know that we are not alone onli being punk'd on by these stupid punkster.....

Yeah ... Sucks to have them... Those who don't want to leave but don't want to train better .. you get other people play they get pissed .. you know ..

Interesting topic! Yes there're irresponsible bandmates.. one didn't turn up for jamming without informing, another one who lost 2 scorebooks of mine, one who jam for 2 years with the band just for the sake of fulfilling his own dream to be able play the songs in the studio and doesn't want to attend any gigs at all and whereas the other members wanted to go to gigs.. blueprintstudios i agree with you that these people shouldn't waste other people's time and money.. the rest of the band member are 100% serious and commited.. the band leader or the one booking the studio everytime is poor thing.. you book the studio.. making so many calls to confirm and double confirm with all the members.. and yet they may be late.. or didn't even learn their part at all.. band management is very important.. sometimes you must be harsh or you won't get things moving..

hehe cool topic - some working band scenario.

1] let the MD [music director] know in advance, you're not ready with your parts/homework/songs. MDs are not mind-readers. dont waste bandmates precious hours, esp those with family/kids already. money and time spent travelling to the club/studio, only to have fruitless rehearsals take place is bull. a re-schedule could be done with proper notice given.

2] always be early, it doesn't make one a lesser musician by being responsible to the band. being on time is fine. let the leader know in advance IF you're gonna be late.

BEST [pun intended] experience i had quite some time back, a band member walks in to the club like 45 mins late for rehearsal [ not his 1st time, probably like 14th or 15th] hugging his gf and shopping bags this time. instead of making excuses or apologizing, he opens his mouth in a raised tone, 'eh i got no mood, i had a bad f***** day' - we [the band] were like wtf, come late somemore show colour, go shopping, walk in smiling with gf, can bad day??

we had to cancel rehearsals cause he was totally unprepared with his parts too [ double whammy ] its like 'hello, we got handphones now, its not the 60/70s kampung days, u could notify that u gonna be late, instead of wasting 3-4 hours of our time having cancelled the practice, we have lives too, hello'.

no matter how good skills they may possess, musicians with this attitude only provide hassle. and thats the kind of crap, i dont tolerate. whether old friend or new, he got the boot in good time. sayonara.

I hear you Paulo. By the way, this is Kelvin (bassist). I think i understand what youre trying to say la, responsibility is the key. I mean working band people aren't all assholes, sometimes we even help/recieve help when bandmates dunno their homework, be it they never learn or did not manage to get the material (cough *mp3) online.

Alot of times for us, the attitude counts, like when you mentioned someone showing their anger, stumping the band. I recently had to deal with someone who elected me to be MD, but cannot take my suggestions to play things like alternative voicings on chords, or toning down on his EQ which was making the band sound horrible! I only remember doing my job politely, and somehow I recieved rude stares in the studio. Yeah anyway, same fate for that bugger, he was asked to be a rockstar - by himself. :? [/b]

Work with as many ppl as possible that way if anyone is underperforming an able replacement can be gotten anytyme.... As for personally speaking to session with other ppl, you gotta have a good rep aka "can do" reputation including ability, punctuality, dress sense, behavior and overall general conduct.

No one's irreplaceacble in book...

My 2 cents 8)

Yes,
one can be a Very very Good Player/musician. But what really measures a person as a really good musician is by being a RESPONSIBLE MUSICIAN. And to Gain RESPECT from others is by being a Responsible Musician, in fact a responsible Person.

of the whole lot of you guys over here, tell me how many of you ever really managed a band, doing all the saikang like calling up members, booking studios, calling up members again to double check, having one member suddenly saying he cant make it, booking another studio, then reinforming all the other members about the new timeslot. then one of the member gets irritated with the inconsistant timings and lack of dedication by the other members and decides that this band isnt for him, and quits, and then u have to look for a new member to fill in for him, write the same old songs u spent the last 4 months writing but with a new drummer/guitarist/whatever. and then when the song is complete, u wait...and wait...and wait and wait and wait for a gigslot and of course, all while juggling school/work/NS/money issues, and of course during this waiting period, another member would have gotten a better offer by a better band and bids u goodbye....its vicious fucking cycle, so dont whine everytime someone mentions the singapore music scene is shitty, its not the music, its the musicians.

for goodness sake people, you want to be a musician, please think carefully about what u really want to achieve, stop being a trendywanker and hop on to the "im-in-a-band-so-im-cool" bandwagon, it wont lead you anywhere else besides getting in bed with some dumb gullible chick.

you wont know it until you feel it.

Chill guys,

I am the one who normally makes all the booking and arrangements.I encounter this being late crap quite often.

I normally have to run around confirming this and that, especially getting the time down and everything which is the hardest.

Basically, I don't take shit from anyone.I'll just ask you can or cannot, yes or no, don't tell me maybe.and work from there,

And when everything's confirmed, the person who arrives late will have to foot the whole jamming bill.

By the way, Ive ever been late cos sometimes traffic is really bad and I've footed the bill before.

If need to be,we could still extend the jam and the person who cock up the timing has to bear the costs.

It works man seriously.I mean we just treat it as being responsible. If you're late, pay for it.

Also, just chill and learn to respect each other.its a 2 way thing.Remeber you are dealing with alot of egoes, and its not easy to tell anybody anyting, unless you make it tactful.

My 2 cents

Heh.. you know guys, coming late for rehearsals, not practising, indifferent attitues... ALL PALE when:

Your band mate touches/uses/plays your gear without having the courtesy and respect to ask/inform you.

You know, like open your guitar case, take out your guitar and start poking around? And you walk in, and see the fellow with greasy hands fooling with the instrument that you babied daily, lovingly held while practicing and used to represent your inner most being?

Now, thats a surefire way to die.

eh the word to use is "irresponsib;e", "uncommitted" or "bochap". "unfaithful" is more for cheeating husbands/wives, boyfrens/girlfrens. :D

sadly, its someone we know :P

for fulltime musicians, where studio, club n gigs are your bread n butter. mates with bad attitude = higher risk of losing your ricebowl/income, by having them in the line-up. this income feeds the family n pays the bills. so its not to be taken lightly at all.

@3notesAbar - sup kelvin :)

SOFTIE -distortedsoul- pmed us and said he wanted to drum for us, and so we spent weeks talking to him on MSN (we were both unable to jam at the time) getting to know him etc, and then we agreed to jam. Come the time, he didn't show up. Only 1 hour before did he tell my singer 'yea im coming'. He then no longer picked up his phone, answered pm's, (despite us being able to see him online), SMS's, emails, and blocked us all on MSN. What the fu ck happened? Maybe he didn't want to join our band anymore, which is 100% fine, but have the common decency to tell us and not just ignore us forever. Just a word of warning if this fool wants to meet with you -> his name is Prahbu/Prabs.
