And I wonder if we keep talking about this here, and by doing so, pushing up this thread into prominence, will this result in more publicity for this kind of gig?
This will be my last post on this thread and I will leave the following (rhetorical?) questions:
Are we to question the motivation of bands that decide to participate in this gig or other kinds of gig?
Are we to question the motivation of gig organizers in the music business? If it's a business, then making profit is the prime motivation and to capitalists, profits ensure the sustainability of a business, in this case the music industry.
What do we gain by whining about it here even though our intentions are clear and noble? Can we translate our words and intentions into clear action?
Gigs like these are here to stay unless somebody can come up with an alternative model that benefits three parties (organizer, performer, audience) which is equally or more successful. And even if pay-to-play or sell-tickets-to-play gigs are here to stay, I won't begrudge them nor will I start another online thread to be a champion of disadvantaged bands because such gigs seem to be the only modus operandi in the absence of other desirable models. And I will live to accept that and move on.
Yes, this will indeed be my last post for this thread. I would rather discuss this issue on another platform, if necessary.
