rockshow. you can try out the Boss SD-1, not as 'branded' as a TS-9 bt maybe you shld try one out, quite a warm low gain drive when i put it infront of my VC-30. Good for the blusey sound you looking for. Gt mine 2nd hand for 60.

The ts-808s sound fantastic through a tube amp bt tru a SS amp they not worth the money imho.

I recently bought the Electro Harmonix English Muffin. That's what I'll suggest. Comes with 2 tubes, true bypass if I'm nt wrong.

i got a vox v810, this baby is discontinued already thou but it kicks arse for blues.. turn the gain low and set the tone just right ard the mids and vol up a little there you go... great blues tone for you right there.. awesome pedal im so luckly i got is almost as gd as my ts9dx.. if u find one for sale some where.. GRAB IT.

and for my ts9dx great for rock and blues.. same thing turn down the drive low and tone up a little u got a great sounding blues overdrive tone there.. mind you SRV used tube screamers thus needless to say its a great blues pedal. i got mine $125 at the crazy 50% off sweelee sale.. LAST PIECE haha.. but i think they have brought in new ones list price.. $250 that would mean about $200 after the 20% "discount" they give to every soul that enters the store. the ts-9 is just as good and its cheaper too just get the ts-9, i would have but they were all gone.. its about $160 i think?

the boss SD-1 is also a great pedal.. its cheap.. my friend got his frist hand for $65 dont ask me how.. haha its a rad pedal its boss's take on the ts-9 so yeah.. haha almost the same thing just not as warm...

The valve tone? That pedal kicks ass man, you're a lucky guy. Mine got lost in a long story a year ago. Damn bloody sad.

hahahhahaha... the TS9 is a good one. used it for years. best imo when used with a humbucker equipt guitar played LOUD. i've used it with a strat, but not as good. and some do not like the mid frq sound it adds to ur basic guitar sound. so, test it out 1st with ur rig.

the boss SD1 is great too. i've used that too. but i need to turn the tone at abt 9-11 o'clock to get a nice warm sound. anything beyond that, will be too trebly for me. others might have different set-up tho... and its not as SMOOTH as the TS9.

another i'll recommend is the BD2 blues driver. its grittier, dirtier and have more gain than the ts9. i feel its a bit more versatile. and its got that 'texas sizzle' sort of tone.

try also the OD3 overdrive. its 'creamier' than all the top three pedals. the tone knob is useful throughout al its range. its got more gain than the SD1 eventhough its named 'overdrive' instead of 'super overdrive'. check it out too.

another thing for me which makes a good overdrive pedal is, it must be able to clean-up nicely when u lower the volume of ur guitar. so u don't have to constantly switch on and off the pedal to get the clean/driven sound too much.

hmmmm... this post is too long. but hope it helps with the query...

i disagree with the od3 being creamier than the SD-1. I have both when turned
up the OD3 startes to sound a bit hard and harsh but it would be more versertile. Bt then again what amp do you play Rockshow? If it was a crappy SS
amp thn a tube screamer would probably sound quite shitty through it, they were made to push the front of a tube amp.

oh yes yes yes.. haha yeah im really lucky man.. i got a good deal for it too i must say.. haha got it 2nd hand.. i read reviews abt the pedal i knew it was gd.. but i could nto believe my ears when i played with it.. haha i'm using it with my ts9dx now and it works wonders. haha oh and i'll really cry if i lose such a gd pedal just like that man.. i feel your pain..

thanks guys for the recos

currently i'm playing by myself so i guess my peavey transtube shitty ss amp will do. i am looking to go into tube amps but havent really zoom in on one affordable enuff.

currently im also using a sansamp gt2 with the ge7..or my gfx 5. both come good and bad. i guess i wanted a bluesy rock lead tone thats warm and organic from the tube screamers and my gt2 can do them rhythm by emulating the rectified sound

will keep my eyes open for the sd1,bd2 and the od3. but i'm still looking into the analogman tube screamer mods

Here's some other OD pedals you might want to consider:

Voodoolabs Sparkle Drive - A bit pricey, but very smooth OD sound, kinda like the TS-9 but with a less pronounced midrange hump. Goes from slightly dirty to full blown OD, lots of balls with heaps of clarity and punch.

Barber Electronics Direct Drive - Tried the Direct Drive SS version at empty71's place some months ago, was quite impressed with the sound. Reminded me alot of my sparkle drive, might just order one to replace my TS-9.

ooo goin into booteek stuff, try teh xotic pedals, RC booster and the AC booster. tried my friends and it blew me away, the AC has a very warm overdrive and its quite transparent to what u use. Still saving for one myself.

Another one to try is the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 or the Banzai fireball.

The pedals are mostly low gain overdrives not really hard out distortion if thats what your lookign for.

Could get an SD1 and send to Randolf modded to Ts808 or ts9 also ~

imo ... i prefer the sd1 ...

for the price of tubescreamer ..
can get an sd1 & bd2 ... with some cash leftover ~

practically all the screamers even TS7 can be modded to TS808.

I suggest something different. Digitech Bad Monkey. Its got an awesome following over at the fender forum. And it won't burst the bank too.Diwnside its that u don't really get a boost.

surprise surprise no one mention ROUTE 66 pedal.

I own TS9, unmodded. But I really dig the ROUTE 66. If I have given second chance, I would have bought ROUTE 66 instead. Not that I regret my TS9 buying :D it still one of the best overdrive out there.

Route 66 and Jerkyll and Hyde both feature the TS808 circuit.

Do note that there are about 4 different TS808 circuits throughout the history of Ibanez. So when people talk about the TS808 tone its sometimes a bit sketchy.

I like my Jerkyll and Hyde overdrive, but I liked my Valve Tone one more

hmmm... wots the BIG DEAL about the 808? 2 resistors and an opamp will not make any significant changes to a TS9 going into a solid state amp.

It'll make a difference albeit SLIGHT difference into a tube amp.

Mods that include the clipping section, frequency shaping, gain etc is what that makes a difference. Not some 808 specs mod. I believe Randolf does all those.

So next time anyone tells you that the TS808 is da bomb? Just smile and walk away.

Hey Edder... sometimes a slight tweak in tone is all it takes to make us go ga ga.... Thats the thing abt the TS808... I understand that it had been overrated somewhat but its a neat device nonetheless, esp when modded to restore the tone sucking attribute...
