truss-rod-less necks.

hey anone know how to straighten a neck which has no truss rod?

i have this guitar which originally came with steel strings, however the features are so classical guitar that i've fitted it with nylon strings.

i now feel that the neck is arched really a lot. is there any way that i can fix this without sending it for service?

weird.
so previously with the steel strings it was fine?
or was it actually a classical all along, and the steel strings messed it up?

erm, this is not actually a standard acoustix or classical guitar that u can find in the shops in singapore. when i first bought it, it was fitted with steel strings. then this year, 1 and a half years after owning it, i found that it has features very much like a classical guitar, so i fitted it with steel strings.

i didnt notice much about the action in the past when it was fitted with steel strings, but i think the steel strings caused the bending.

well fixing it yourself is out of the question.
but first i guess remove the strings and leave it alone for a couple days and see if the neck somehow flattens back.
else you'll have to send it for repair which can be very expensive depending how bowed the neck is.

its one of the hardest repairs i've learnt.. u need more tools den u imagine.. letting it rest in normal air will never do e trick...trade secrets trade secrets.. haha.. or u can start searching them thru online materials or books..

erm, how about, if i string this guitar with nylon strings from now on? will the neck worsen?
will be less playable with the high action, worsened by the fact that it's got no frets, but i'm beginning to like it.

n no, no toilet bowl seat using the neck. it is, after all, the very first guitar i ever laid my hands on.

btw grey, u learn luthiery?

yeah.. that time i ithcy hand go de-fret. anyway the frets weren't sitting on the right place initially, so might as well de-fret.

theres your prob there.
with no frets on it the neck bows even more.

he got it right.. how come u wanna string up something with fret slots and no frets on it? not afraid ur neck splitting into 2??

anyway i'm still learning on luthiering.. so ya.. still a learner.. hahaa...

methinks you shouldn't bother too much with it... sounds like a cheap guitar, and not that cheap guitars arent' good or what, but with the problems you are describing, its not making sense that you spend that amount of time/effort/money on it.

yea, so again.
it'll make a nice toilet seat cover.

yea no frets it bows even more.
all those little empty slots being pushed together.

thats why its sometimes risky when ppl want to convert a fretted neck to fretless, cos no idea how the neck is going to react with all the frets off.
