Tokyo Square

Hi Bongman

Checked with Peter Han, the bandleader from Tokyo Square , this morning !

You are right about cpmposer of the song " Within You'll Remain " wss Donald Ashley , the drummer -- Tokyo Square rearranged the song and some words of the song and popularised it and actually went to Tokyo to perform this song !
HaHa !

Much obliged to you for getting the facts correct! 8O

option:
1) buy a 2nd hand turn table
2) go to some audiophile shop, get it converted to CD.

I believe Esplanade library would have a CD copy of it,
Class Acts CD is a national archive !!!

pls refer:
http://vistaweb.nlb.gov.sg/cgi-bin/cw_cgi?fullRecord+13474+3002+4140434+4+-1

I see lots of youngster bringing in laptops in to burn some of the CDs
which are for reference only (i.e cannot borrow), maybe we shld do tat ?

I do have the cassette tape?! dunno can play a not.

I only liked Ginger Bread-Roses and
of course Tokyo Square-Within you'll remain

Hi MR.WOOFWONG,

glad to hear from you,
nvr expect to correspond with local pro musician.

myself being an vivid fan of local music,
followed the scene from 80s and throughout BigO acts.

such pity no industry here in Singapore.

jus wondering is Peter Han part of Han, Terry and Goh team
that used to play at Orchard jacks place?

Local Talents

Glad to make your acquaintance too!

Finding like=minded people is good!

Especially appreciative of your suggestions and tips on the Esplanade library stock of classics local bands and their songs and converting LP to CD

I am fond of Gingerbread " Roses " too!

I think Peter Han did say he played once with Terry but there is another Han whom I met the other day at Beboz , Robertson Walk.

No Musician

Hi Bongman

I am not a pro musician and only play the guitar for leisure and currently play Chriatian songs at St John's Home for the Elderly once a week as a volunteer.

Yeah a real pity the 70's and 80's musicians are not fully appreciated I reckon the local pool is just too small can't take everyone from the 60's 70's 80' and then the 90's !

And like old soldiers, musicians don't die they just fade away slowly bit by bit , note by note , as they lose the chance to play in public eyes and they stop playing in private too, some don't even touch their instrument anymore, really sad ....

Lyricist of Within You'll Remain

Hah Peter han said he deosn't know who worte the words but when they recorded the song they made some changes to some parts of the song " Within you'll Remain " and just like some songs the 2nd group or later singer made the song popular thropugh a different arrangement of the same song !!!

Soft

Hi James

Benjamin is the superintendant there at St JOhn's, I think he sings only, he doesn't jam as far as I know -- only Vivian Nonis the 70 year old Jazz guitarist jams well! Hhaha!

Echoes Of Praise at St John's Old Folks Home

There is a group of volunteers ( about 20 ) called Echoes of Praise who go there to sing with the residents ( about 20 ) every WEd some chritian song for abou an hour from 10.15 to 11.15 with one painist and maybe 1 /2/3 guitarists playing bass, or ukelele or normally rhymn and some lead guitar

Chriatian pianist

hahha sorry Christian ( not chistian ) pianist and not painist ( it's a joy not painful to play there ) hhahaha!

Only got 3 members out of the original 7 members from Tokyo Square

namely : - Peter Han , Max Surin and Tony Fonseca! Linda is in America !

So revival is no problem !

as what woofwong said, old musicians fade away bit by bit, note by note, as they lose the chance to play in public eyes.. really sad..

i bump into some of them at my shop. i think it will be cool if they could be gathered to perform once more, or semi regularly. :smt034 :smt035

oh yes, bring the memories back !

probably the small music industry in Singapore
and the high living standard in Singapore killed the music scene

with the high cost of living, who can afford to party in the evening
after work?

Work

Yeah agreed with duskalways and Bong !!

that in the 60s and even right now, one can't go profeassional unless you are the top 1% -- like now Stephanie Sun or JJ Lin the chinese market is okay ! !

Sad ! Sad!

yes we should have a permanent stage where the good bad and ygly who can play can play to the public before they become rusty like the guitar strings wwhich only takes 1week or at most 1 month to become RUSTY !
