Hey guys, my guitar skills are currently stagnating because I have no idea what to learn/train on... Is there any webbie with good excercises to improve technique? Anyway I also dunno what to concentrate on... beginner here. Yes, currently very confused. So all those self taught guitarists out there pls enlighten me :D

Or should I just save myself the trouble and get a teacher

well, check out the forums here. they've got lots of gd advice..ofcourse some jokers advice also,,,,,but theres serious stuff too. ultimate guitar website has some gd lessons too i think. and ofcourse....the best wld be get frens help and all.......

hey mitth

post some recording of your playing here and we see what is lacking.

Eh, I'm very bad... don't dare post :? Just take it that I'm a begginer, only can alternate pick at a slow speed. Should I just concentrate on building up on my speed or also on other techniques?

try STRICT alternate picking and also string skipping

im not really sure abt e string skipping becoz i haven't been practicin it, but it makes your simple pentatonics sound fuller and nicer

STRICT alternate picking will ensure that when you try more complicated licks, it'll be easier

im still learning and i wont stop.

to tink back again i did alot of listening. listen to sound and dynamics and try to achieve them. i ask ppl the hows and hwats. i did alot of research thru magazines and internet and i realli observe closely the pple from gigs, videos.

i guess u need alot of determination like i did. it was realli irritating wen u want to learn a certain licks or techniques but ur fingers just wont make it. but wen u got it. it feels great!! i feel satisfied myself learning by myself. of course i started the introduction, basic handling and techniques from pple 1st. then after dat i felt confident and learn evrything by myself.

now im slacking. realli slacking. but i wont stop..hopefully

all d best.
good nite. god bless.
thank you!!

try playing as much as possible maybe like 10 hours a day(ok,maybe not), to train ur ears melodically, and techniques. If your fingers arent strong enough to play for very long periods of time, trying lowering the action, or detuning a few steps. It would definitely enable your fingers to last alot lot longer durations.

of course check out websites to get your techniques right 1st. Dont learn the wrong things and and spend like 1 year using the wrong technique before unlearning it to learn the correct one.

i bought my first guitar when i was 15 and basically wasted 2 years not doing anything productive and being stuck with 3 chords..imagine that! i think its important to find a good teacher who can really guide you cause i've had some real lousy ones back then who hardly tought me any useful things or introduce to me ways of improving and progressing..they were just guys out to make an extra buck. now ive had to re-learn everything from scracth and its real pissing but at least im slowly getting the hang of it.

i guess practising would involve not giving up and alot of patience .... 1st rule of thumb ... never try to play fast .. but rather play things within your limits ... and when practising use a metronome .. start slow and slowly build-up your speed if you intent to play fast .... whereas for improvisation ... good to learn a scale or two ... listen to a variety of music and learn some nice licks as well .... but remember also ... play everything CLEANLY .... dun try to hurry and end up playing the wrong notes and skipping notes as well ... good to start with zero distortion as well ... then from there build-up to anything that u really like

what abt those hu went for lessons, what did y'all learn at first?

depends..my first teacher was this old guy who couldnt teach me for nuts...then learnt from this guy who works at sweelee i learnt a few chords. then went to yamaha..started by learning 1 box shape of a minor pent and licks from there as well as bends and vibrato. then for my present teacher i started with dominant 7 and 9 chords and 12 bar blues.
