Timbre SR-200 vs MIM standard strat

Hi All,

Just wanted to know your opinion on these 2 guitars.

Sound - clean and gain and very fenderish twangy etc
Feel - neck very good, feels solid and nicely constructed etc
future upgrades - which one do you think is worth upgrading. You dont want to try upgrading a dud!

Really not concerned about value. Everybody will then side Timbre! Just your views on which one is a better guitar in terms of the 3 criterias mentioned above.

the Timbre mentioned above has great playability, the default tone is love/ hate- you might not get along with the default pickup's tone(s). it can do what the Mex Fender can but at a fraction of the cost- that's a worthy consideration IMO.
 
Hi Sub, I know you have tried this guitar somtime back and you were pleased with this guitar. Any views on the hardware used in the guitar and the build quality compared to MIM Strat? Is it pretty similar standard or there is a definate difference in the quality of the hardware in the two guitars.
 
i tried this guitar many times actually... 8-)

the hardware & electronics here are obvious no-names; it could be in-house units but they work perfectly fine.

the Timbre feels a little lighter than the average Mex Fender, IMO this is where it's more appealing in the midrange. keep in mind that the Mex Fenders are quality products but it's nothing the Timbre cannot equate. thusfar, i've not come across a dud Timbre as far as the SR200 is concerned.
 
Thanks Sub. Does this guitar stay in tune very well? I understand that obviously there should be no excessive whammy antics with this guitar...I mean when you bend a few strings playing blues...

Does a guitar being lighter mean better mid range?

for resale i still think nth beats an american fender.

mex fenders are rather difficult to resell without making a huge loss IMHO....

Of course, but would the loss be greater than a Timbre?

Actually, I did sell my MIM Robert Cray which I bought for $1,300 for $800 once... Considering what an MIA American Deluxe I sold once would fetch, I'd say the MIM held better... whahahaha...:mrgreen:
 
u buy a timbre at $300..worse comes to worst, u sell it off at $150..

u lose only $150..

TImbre vs MIM Strat

It depends i like natrual width of strat body, if you notice Timbre has thinner body, i think not everyone mind it anyway, but i do, id upgrade the MIM becoz of its thicker body which i like, BUT before all that, id go to a guitar shop e.g standardvalue or guitar connection to check and access the body, and ask for thier expertise opinions just on the body, coz i ever came to this point .. to upgrade my this Squier neck to warmoth or fender one, so this guy checked the strat body for me.. he said some fake strat body has basswood on the front and back justy as layers but in between the basswood its a plywood which is bad and bad wood for a guitar body. I dunno but id do all that first before i proceed with any upgrades, no harm to get an expertise's opinion before you start throwing money into the guitar for upgrades. Its a hard decision , and actually Timbre is a very nice strat, pretty neat for a guitar for its price range. I have an idea, try to compare the two guitars by its weight, if you like solid guitar as in its quite heavy and u feel solid holding it then go for MIM, but if you prefer lightness of the body, then go for Timbre. I hope this helps lol, i dunno i used to be a Strat lover but not anymore, unless if its with Humbuckers on.

I have seen brand new MIM strats in peninsula plaze for around 800 first price. Maybe will be around 700 - 750 after barganing a bit. I have rarely seen a second hand MIM strat sold for less than 500 - 550..Not too bad eh!

Anyways, keeping the selling aspect out, in general the guitar quality seems very good. Subversion bro also suggests that it is really good and can do all that the MIM strat can.

Can anyone explain if I am right to say that a lighter body, wood remaing the same means better tones in the mid range?
 
I would guess since both brands are able to offer similar needs to players but they are both of different price range, my take would be that the Timbre would be for those who like the Strat tone and doesn't mind not having that *ahem ahem* F word written on the headstock.

I played both the Timbre and a Fender Japan Strat at Standard Value n I much prefer the former. I prefer the neck on tat one, easy for me to navigate around the fretboard. I`ve even seen Mr Paul Danial playing the Timbre n getting awesome sounds from it :)

I`m considering getting the Timbre as a backup to my Squier Standard Strat n put in Tesla Plasma hot pickups in it :)
