hi guys! my first post in this forum...

well u can say that im a guitar newbie. have never played a electric guitar before and do not know too much abt it too, though have been learning the accoustic 1s for 1 yr plus.

i have recently decide to purchase a electirc guitar and those from epiphone has caught my eye(actually the ones i like are Gibson but far too expensive). buget ard S$500 - 1000 so can any 1 review some of the guitars that i like?

epiphone les paul black beauty
epiphone les paul custom
epiphone les paul standard
epiphone les paul rivera

thanx in advance for ur views and if any1 else have other guitars sugesstion pls say also

the black beauty 33 will be great..but change pick ups of stock epiphones cuz they suck.If lets say u got a custom or a standard bout $500 i think...go to davis and buy EMG pick ups...EMG81 and EMG85...shud be okay..

i bought a epi les paul standard plus (grover tuners and gibson alnico pups). love it to bits

its heavy though

i think you wont go wrong with a lp standard. better test one out at your favorite guitar store so you can see if you like it for yourself

Ever noted how thick a Les Paul's body is?

What wood is it made of?

Dudes, we play guitars but never really notice guitars huh?

urm dude...the SG got a thin body..and its also heavy...i wonder why..

ya...diff ppl got diff weight acceptance...for skinny ppl like me..i find usual gibson or epip LP r heavy...so i got myself a edwards...which r lighter in weight...and for those ppl who hang their guitar very low...their guitar tend to feel heavier...

les pauls arent hollow..juz tt some r chambered..but they cost 2 bombs.

SGs r heavy?arent they like, the lightest guitars around?

wah,if 3 kg is heave,then i must be VERY heavy..i'm 80kg!

haha..

the person must be INSANE if hez contemplating carrying u on a shoulder strap on his shoulder.

haha.

yea, epi LPs are ok.
i have a custom plus fitted with EMGs, pretty good value.
i'm gonna get the frets recrowned flatter so it feels more like the older gibsons.

speaking of SGs being light.
i have two gibson SGs, '74 and '89.
the '89 is very light, similar to what SGs weigh now.
the '74 is as heavy as my epi LP.

i think most les pauls are made of mahogany and maple... both heavy wood, then imagine how thick the body is. i think it is made that way for its sustain and tone

some sg's are light because they probably have used different wood

SGs are made of mahogany. Les pauls have a 1 piece mahogany body with a 2 piece maple top. This applies to Gibsons only.

Epiphones are made with a very thin layer of maple and a mahogany alder sandwich body. which is why most epiphones are much lighter than Gibson Les Pauls.

And the production line les pauls dun use the highest grade wood which is why they are very heavy. there are 9 weight relief holes drilled into the body under the maple cap to reduce the weight.

Custom Shop les pauls do no have the weight relief holes but they use a better grade wood so the weight is still manageble but without the less mass of production line les pauls.
