I bought this tele from a nice guy named Jeff. It is a nashville type telecaster with a staggered single coil pickup between the neck pickup and the bridge pickup. He swapped the Bridge pickup for a SD one..not sure which model it is though but it sounds super bright...It has a 5-way switch and sounds slightly humbucker-ish ( to me at least heh ) when the switch is set between the middle pickup and the neck pickup eventhough both are single coils hehe.....

Gene's Tele

My customised Squier tele, changed pickguard, with GFS humbucker and vintage bridge single coil. I think it looks and sounds great but recently gotten more into songs which sort of needed the 22 fret. LOL how you guys get around this man.

The guitar was built with the help of my friend from the Philippines who knows a good luthier there. My concept was inspired by Fender Custom Shop's La Cabronita and TGP's Southern Ill Guitars. I've always wanted a contoured Esquire but it's just impossible to find one unless you order online and they usually are very expensive. I also requested for as minimal lacquer as possible because I already got used to my Edwards SRV Relic Strat's broken-in neck. The half-guard was also fabricated by him but was actually just meant to be temporary that's why it doesn't have screws yet. It is being held by non-marking double-sided tapes for now.

The "traffic light" 12th fret markers are now covered by 3 blue inlay stickers(will probably have them changed to a suitable block marker when I find a luthier who can do it here). I forgot to cancel that design when the luthier was building the neck.(Yeah, I know, what was I thinking back then). It was suppose to have a theme of a hot rod car(racing stripes, dice knobs, etc.) but I ditched the idea later on but forgot about that 12th fret.

I may still change the rear cover for the electronics as he was actually suppose to make a better version of it but I can't already wait.

Overall, I'm very happy with the result as the luthier managed to get at least 95% of my expectations. : )

Awesome tele, edgie...the power of one pickup can be deadly hehehe :P

Why not post ur baby at the project guitar of the month thread? Few entries this mth...:P

Thanks faizal. I'll try to post there as well. I hope it's ok for our mods to post the same thing on 2 different threads. : )

Yes edgie do post @PGOTM, it is a very nice custom esquire!
How does BG Flat 50's sound on ash?remind me of Leo's prototype..

:p

Thanks eieio. The Blackguard Flat 50 for me is a well-balanced combination of grit, twang, and fullness. It's a bit darker than a typical tele pickup but just enough to avoid the ice-pick tendency or the overbearingness of the mids in an overwound pickup. It like 50% P90, 50% tele. It sounds huge but clean and still retains that tele snap. Also, it's a very quiet pickup.

nice esquire project....good thing that you didn't follow the la cabronita ugly headstock....Just curious is the pickguard stick on only?Cos I didn't see any screws there

Thanks. As of now, it's just being held by a double-sided tape. I plan to buy a tele pickguard and cut it in half so at least the holes will already be there and ask a luthier to just drill the holes. It's only a fabricated pickguard by the luthier who made the guitar.

I just checked again the pic of the La Cabronita, I don't see anything unsual on the headstock. To me, it's just a plain tele headstock. please enlighten me what's unusual about it.: )
