wow nice specs dude, thanks for posting this here!

i like the 1.687' wide nut. the top is killer - makes me wish it was a suhr standard without a pickguard so i can see more of it! ;)

*if* it were my guitar, i'd get a brown tortoise guard for it. not really a fan of white pearloid, too much contrast for me. or better still, a transparent acrylic guard ;)

hmm that white strat's white.. falls under "olympic"?
i'm thinking of getting a mint green pickguard, looks killer on white strats but mine's vintage white.. any diy strat dudes to advice?

For vintage white, I'd go with a single ply parchment white guard 8 screw holes.
+ Parchment white pickup covers and knobs to finish off the deal.

i've just acquired a fender mij contemporary strat (w/ floyd rose) and though she's sounds good, i'm thinking of getting the pickups changed. i'm a bit of a noob when it comes to gear so your help would be greatly appreciated.

i've scoured this thread and have established that these are the popular choices:
- texas specials
- lace holy grails
- lace sensors
- suhr v60lp w/ scc system
- kinmans
- fralins
- bill lawrence

am i missing any out? and would anyone be able to comment on the respective advantages & disadvantages of each of these? i understand that the kinmans are noiseless - do they like that characteristic strat singlecoil bite & twang? i'm looking to get that typical bright srv sound from my neck.

as for my bridge pup, i was thinking of the dimarzio paf pro. it's heavy and everything shines through well, but without being too harsh (which is the current case with my stock pup). any other recommendations? has to be a humbucker, by the way.

thanks for your time.

well heres a bit of advice in terms of pickups. always go for low output, sounds better and dont think for one moment that low output = a sucky high gain tone because its just the opposite. when low output is driven it sounds really smooth and nice but if u use something high in output its gonna sound too overdriven and fizzy. low output pickups work best in any kind of situation. my recommendation is texas specials, v60lp (using them in my suhr at the moment), fralins. i dont recommend lace as they dont seem to do well driven.

for the kinmans yes they are really quiet, but if ure looking for a traditional strat sound theres none to be had. they sound really hi-fi and polished but way too modern. had them in another guitar a while back.

hahahaha. i use my suhr for all gain situations, and the singles really shine with high gain lead. but its not my formula, im just following in the footsteps of yngwie.

ah just had my suhr setup by malcolm. quite a wonder y i didnt do it earlier but i guess i got too comfortable with all that rattle and buzz but now its like having my guitar unveiled to me once again. just a pity i cant play her that much as im going back to camp from tmr onwards. anyone who wants a spa treatment for ye guitar just has to pay a visit to malcolm. aint cheap but sure is worth it!

got this about 2 weeks back. 83 Fender 70's reissue jv cts 55 squier

Its actually candy apple red. Shouldn't have taken it with the black background making it look really dark. Will replace the pic when i have time

Where can I get texas specials and how much would they cost? haven't seen them around.
And also the ones you suggested.

Looking for pickups that does well distorted, yet retain the nice strat sound.

suhr can get from guitar77, fralins from tymusic, texas specials im not too sure if swee lee brings them in but u can prob find them elsewhere. also can try budz pickups which u can get from malcolm.

Ignoring the obvious strings and amp suggestions, remember that during SRV's time, there were no Texas Special pickups. Though that's relatively close to what he used. I'd wager that a set of custom 69's grey bottoms would be closer... You want that shimmering tone heard on "Lenny" and "Riviera Paradise"? It's right there...

I had Kinmans in ALL my strats previously. Now, I've changed the strats. One is a 1965 CS Relic, and the other has custom shop 69s... The only Kinmans I've kept are the Hank Marvins. That's because they have character... whahahaha...

Once it starts to rust, pretty much no use removing them.
The chrome is worn off, so even if you remove the rust, it'd come back.

I'd just leave it there, or buy new saddles. Its part of natural wear.
