The SMASHING PUMPKINS thread!

Anyone who grew up in the 90s with The Smashing Pumpkins will know what I mean when I say that those were special times. Listening to Tonight Tonight, 1979, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Perfect, Today, and all of SPs greatest moments is a fantastic childhood memory.

Sure, there were plenty of other great 90s bands out there, and certainly a lot of better live performers, but there was something unique yet mainstream, intimate yet accessible about the music of SP. They were the band that made you feel that being a 'freak' was totally okay, that unusual crossbreed of alternative and art rock. :)

Here are some of their most beautiful music videos for those who are uninitiated to the alternative rock greatness that is Smashing Pumpkins.

MUSIC VIDEOS:

Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight ("And you know you're never sure, but you're sure you could be right, if you held yourself up to the light")

Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm ("The killer in me is the killer in you")
Smashing Pumpkins - Zero ("Emptiness is loneliness, loneliness is cleanliness, cleanliness is godliness, and God is empty, just like me")
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings ("The world is a vampire")

Smashing Pumpkins - Ava Adore ("It's you that I adore, you'll always be my wh0re. You'll be a mother to my child, and a child to my heart")

Smashing Pumpkins - Today ("Today is the greatest day I've ever known")
Smashing Pumpkins - Perfect ("I know we're just like old friends, we just can't pretend that lovers make ammends")

Enjoy! Ah, the memories!

Also, fans of My Chemical Romance might be amused by the similarities in Gerard Way's looks and Billy Corgan. Not entirely the same, but the same kind of look, especially in videos like Ava Adore.

P.S. Bassist D'arcy still turns me on!

they occupied a certain space of me youth back then. And even till now, when iam already out of that phase, imho, i think their music style plus the elusive fuzz sound is quite attractive in some ways

was lucky enough to catch them when they were here for that short and uninspiring set back in mid 90s. Even though the excitement of waching them live was good, too bad they wasnt in their best form, due to corgan having food poisoning from the previous gig in indonesia or was it thailand.

oh well, it was good while it lasted.

heh, all that i ask for, is that they will never reform and each move on with their own music style. Nothing make me sadder watching bands that i love as youth, only to reform and sounding like shadow of their past playing similar style of music that sounded decent, but outdated.

imho

^ They probably aren't planning to reform. Billy has basically taken over the name and has recruited a drummer, and he's putting out a 44-track album soon.

i is like them!!!

still remember those memories when they play at wtc years2 back. opening act foo fighters!!!!!!!!!!!

woohoo!!!!

They are definitely one of my fave bands of all time. :p 1979... This song brings back lots of good memories to me...

Same here.
Back in the days when MTV still played music videos without the reality TV trash.
Back when radio still was a big deal!
Back when the Internet was JUST taking flight.
Good ol' days :)

Now they're pretty crappy though. :(
