The Singapore Football Scene Thread

Yea..........i watched it on TV........Baihakki and Precious just can't click together. Add that to the fact that Maksim Shatskiksh was pulling them on strings like puppets, and u have a recipe for disaster.......which was exactly wat happened last night. And we do need ppl who can pull the trigger much much earlier, Duric's wasted chance when he was put clear by Shi Jiayi was testament to that. I think Qiu Li may jus be the man for that.

Qiu Li isn't afraid to shoot at goal, even from outside the box- that's a good sign but the frequency of it must increase...

last night, Lionel Lewis was terrible... he did buck-up during the later half of the game but that was damage control time.

The irony of all this is that prior to this match the Lions' defence IMO is one of the best that I have seen since watching local football, and is the trumph card that Raddy counts on to get the results most of the time.

Anyway yesterday's match was a humbling experience to show that the local lads are way way behind of being "world class". Even the like of Lewis (maybe the captain's armband got to him), one of Asia's best stumbled and played like a schoolboy(mind u he didnt even played like that during his school days!)

It is a frustrating result as a fan of local footie but its a good lesson learn. Especially considering that they can come back twice to equalise!

Though it may be a team sport, what the Lions needs now is a another football hero in the mould of Fandi/Sundram/Quah Kim Song/etc... to bring it on when the occasion arise. The current squad of players has none of that critera...

still i think Nor Rahman had a good game. look at how he close down people. he easily save 3 goals from happening the way i see it. duric looks frking nervous on that first superb through ball to him. lack of composure? no way for someone experienced like him.

but what the heck. half time, my hp batt flat, went into room, never did came out.

Yes, i can't believe Grasshopper Zurich actually bothered to give him a trial. He's capable of so much more. Hassan Sunny might have been a better choice, seeing that he's had a good season and has been great in goal for the Lions recently.

to think that S'pore once aimed to qualify for the world cup by 2010...

Hi guys, check out this trailer of 'Kwa Giu', a documentary film about the Kallang Roar:

Hosaywood.com - Kwa Giu (Watch Football) trailer

Experience the Kallang Roar from the eyes of 55,000 fans who packed the National Stadium at the AFC Cup Final on 31 Jan 2007.

Shot with roving camcorders, Kwa Giu (Watch Football) takes you right into the heart of the legendary atmosphere and spirit of the Kallang Roar, one which will be lost forever when the National Stadium is demolished.

Coming soon… when the stadium finally closes!

The closest we've got to a hero is Indra Sahdan Daud. And he's gone and got himself injured. With him and Khairul Amri in front things might have been better. Even better yet, a 3-pronged attack with Indra the target man, Amri and Qiu Li supporting from the flanks. Duric is another option for the targetman and Qiu Li can also take that position.

i was just wondering. correct if i'm wrong.

last wen i was a kid, there is tis soccer clinic/club tat grooms kids in soccer, like Milo blabla...
are there any now?
i think they should concentrate on tis n groom kids so in future got gd local players n can aim for world cup or wateva cup.

no offence... i see the team now is like an upset...
and i dun understand by getting 'old' foreign players to be PR just to get them to play in the team. but where r the local talents? even the foreign players (PR) dun reli have the impact...

its better to start young but prepared

just an honest opinion

boon brader

yup our time-milo school..aide,rafi and most of our age group were from here

now got each club youth team plus sports school

fuzztremeco: Tony Adams? voice like Bryan Adams? Now days my perut besar eat too much at ADAM road hawker centre .. :-)

I was there with my friends. If you heard a guy shouting "Precious! Precious!" each time Precious touched the ball, yup that's my friend. Had a blast, not from watching the match, but shouting random nonsense throughout the match.

I thought the team did well to recover each after the first couple of goals were scored. I thought after we had scored the second equalizer that we would grow in confidence and might actually have a slight chance at even scoring a victory.

Wilko was, also, my MoM. The defence was in shambles, it seemed like they were playing in unfamiliar positions.

Uzbekistan were first-class, no doubts about it. Intricate and precise passing, very good movements on and off the ball and more.

Singapore had very good moments, and the fact that they did not give up and even scored three goals was already something that made me proud as I left the stadium that day. I did not leave early.

It already sucked when I walked into a half-empty stadium, and then people started to leave by the bus loads after the sixth and seventh goals were scored. Absolutely disappointing.

Rally the troops for the Saudi match yo!

Goal 2010 is a way way optimistic target back then. Unless they do a "Chelsea" and bring in world class players to convert to citizens, that target it is utterly rubbish to any local footie fan who has common sense. Right now they are bringing in only "good" foreign talents to the team which can easily conquer SEA, but has troubles sparring with the best of Asia. So let us just forget about aiming the World Cup for now and just aim to be Asia's best first.

Indra Shahdan is a real talented player who deserves his place in the team however in my book he's short of being a Hero type of player. Sure he score goals against the likes of European clubs but he's no Fandi or Sundram or Dollah who can win games by themselves.

My 2 cents

I do agree with what everyone says. The defence HAS to be sorted out. Hassan Sunny should be given a chance in the next game. I do like the way we came back to equalise when we were a goal down on 2 occasions.

We should look foward to the next game against the Uzbeks this Sat at their home ground. Go Lions Go!!!!!!!!!

i was there. i kept shouting with an ah pek behind me .
honestly , my balls start shaking when uzbek starts atttacking .they're so unpredictable.
but the sound and the environment and the atmosphere when the lions put the ball behind their net , PRICELESS ! honestly . i'm looking forward to get my ass to the match against saudi.
