Hi rossie, since u r an avid player of the JP6 BFR, do u happen to own a normal fully loaded JP6? If u do could u give me a simple review of it? Cause i have tried the JP6 once at sinamex and sadly it didnt feel quite right especially the neck, perhaps my experience with ibanez has clouded my view since i thought that in terms of feel both shld be close. That said, i absolutely love the tone that beast generates and the OH so wonderful piezo system that is fantastic!
I have one. So does Teokiatuan, I believe. Same colour somemore... I think Leecs has sold his blue one. Not sure if Ripper has a JP6 though.
The JP6 is at this point the most comfortable guitar I own. My only gripe is that it has 24 frets, and the 3 way switch is limited only to 3 specific modes, and I can't choose to have both hums on, or single coil selection on either humbucker. That forearm scoop is the thing that makes it so wonderful to play. It's extremely comfortable. It's like the guitar isn't even there.
There is NO Ibanez I've owned or played that comes close. You might get slightly put off by expecting a bigger guitar. Or you might expect a blockier neck. The JP6 neck is a bit on the thin side, but that's also because they rounded the shoulders off so much, it's almost a C shape as opposed to the thin D of an Ibanez wizard. The floating trem is totally stable, and the locking tuners are a great addition.
Some claim the tone of the fully loaded models is a bit different compared to the non-piezo ones. I have no clue how, but the last time I tried them, I preferred the fully loaded ones. More presence. I think that's because of the saddles.
Hey thanx for the advice whitestrat. I was just wondering Which is more suitable both in terms of playability and price. Because both the silo and jp6 fulfils my need of 24 fret neck and dual humbucker config. Although I really like the piezo on the jp6 and the jumbo frets. BTW how much does a silo cost?
The Silo does come with a piezo as well as an option. Personally, I prefer the feel of a Silo, but the tone of a JP6. The basswood tone is much looser and bigger to me compared to pure alder. That's my main gripe with my silhouette specials. In terms of playability, if you're looking for a shred guitar, the JP6 wins. if you're looking for something more traditional feeling, the silo wins. That doesn't mean you can't do either on both. (I use my silo specs for metal). You will get used to the thin and tall frets on the silo easily. They're not vintage frets, and after a while, you'll not like the jumbos on the Ibanezes and the JP6. The traditional feel of the silo fretboard is very very comfortable. Thats why I've got 5 silhouettes (2 20ths and 3 specs) in total and only 1 JP6. Hahahaha...
I don't know the full pricing, but I believe the silos are a tad cheaper.
