The Ernie Ball Music Man Thread

hi all bringing up this old thread!

am really curious about the ernie balls.. they are really awesome guitars.. any idea where in singapore could i go to test out a few of these models, and what are their price ranges like? am eyeing a silo... XD

You can try them at the dealer, which would be Sinamex

But to be honest, it doesn't make alot of sense to buy from them, their prices are very high, better off buying online like most of us did...

I think they're stopping the production this month.
Or was that last month.

And as of last week, Sinamex only has the bass version of the 25th left...

me need single coils:)

Then the AL or the Silo Spec would be best for you... Thing is, Sinamex has neither of these in stock. If you want to try, I think you can get in touch wtih Ripper or myself, and you can possibly get to try one of these. I no longer have my AL, but I have the Silo Spec still. (3 of them, actually) Ripper has both. Check with him if he's ok to let you check out his balls..

Its a pity that sinamex do not carry the silo.....always wanted to try one out so that i can do a comparison with the JP6 that i tried. I am fascinated withe JP6 but i am interested in the silo as well after hearing and reading so many gd reviews abt it.

yeah ok.. thanks whitestrat. how much money are we looking into in the first place? are one of the balls in he price range of 1-2k, 2-3k or 3k onwards? it may not be a near-future plan for me if its too high!

Prices vary from 3k to 6k. Call Sinamex to check.

They are 2 entirely different animals. Cannot be compared. Mainly depends on what you want from a guitar.

Hey thanx for the advice whitestrat. I was just wondering Which is more suitable both in terms of playability and price. Because both the silo and jp6 fulfils my need of 24 fret neck and dual humbucker config. Although I really like the piezo on the jp6 and the jumbo frets. BTW how much does a silo cost?

Whitey, the BFR last time I checked... Quilted one is going for 6.5k...

The JP6 BFR is really a dream to play... I have totally no GAS for another 6-string electric guitar... No matter what I play, I always go back to my JP... (sold the 513)
The JP just feels so comfortable to play...

Hi rossie, since u r an avid player of the JP6 BFR, do u happen to own a normal fully loaded JP6? If u do could u give me a simple review of it? Cause i have tried the JP6 once at sinamex and sadly it didnt feel quite right especially the neck, perhaps my experience with ibanez has clouded my view since i thought that in terms of feel both shld be close. That said, i absolutely love the tone that beast generates and the OH so wonderful piezo system that is fantastic!

Of course lastly the price issue, the last i saw someone posted the price of a JP6 fully loaded was around the region of 3.5k that was acquired through a fellow softie. So i am wondering if there is a change in price, of course at the same time i am curious abt the silo as well. Thanx for ur kind attention, cheers!

3.5k is a good price... IIRC, Sinamex is charging 4k++ for a fully loaded one...

Unfortunately, I don't own a basic JP... But I've test driven it numerous times... It's just that after EBMM announced that they are coming up with a alder/mahogany/maple top version, I thought that that was a no-brainer... As I've always found it a bit of a pity the JP looks abit too plain and I've always liked the look of a nice flamed/quilted maple top...

For starters, the tone is significantly different from the BFR, the basic one sounds like any other basswood bodied guitar, I can't really recall exactly how it sounds, but the difference is pretty obvious once you've get your hands on a BFR...

Next up, the neck profile is alittle different too because of the finished mahogany neck on the BFR... The BFR is slightly thicker due to the finishing... Compared to an Ibanez, I myself was an Ibanez player right up till I got my JP... The JP neck feels very different from a wizard neck... EBMM calls the JP as their "pencil-thin" neck, but to us Wizard II players, it's actually no where "pencil-thin"... But I'm not complaining though, I've too always felt that the WII necks are too thin, not very comfy to play... The JP has enough meat to make it feel beefy but still thin enough...

leecs had the basic JP and later traded it for a BFR... Maybe he can chip in too...

Off to work... Will add more later...

Yeah... the BFR is that costly... That's a killer guitar though... But not my cup of tea. I like the standard JP6/7s too much. I would love to have a BFR Axis though.

Imagine BFR Axis Super Sport with Piezo... ooo... Killer guitar!

I have one. So does Teokiatuan, I believe. Same colour somemore... I think Leecs has sold his blue one. Not sure if Ripper has a JP6 though.

The JP6 is at this point the most comfortable guitar I own. My only gripe is that it has 24 frets, and the 3 way switch is limited only to 3 specific modes, and I can't choose to have both hums on, or single coil selection on either humbucker. That forearm scoop is the thing that makes it so wonderful to play. It's extremely comfortable. It's like the guitar isn't even there.

There is NO Ibanez I've owned or played that comes close. You might get slightly put off by expecting a bigger guitar. Or you might expect a blockier neck. The JP6 neck is a bit on the thin side, but that's also because they rounded the shoulders off so much, it's almost a C shape as opposed to the thin D of an Ibanez wizard. The floating trem is totally stable, and the locking tuners are a great addition.

Some claim the tone of the fully loaded models is a bit different compared to the non-piezo ones. I have no clue how, but the last time I tried them, I preferred the fully loaded ones. More presence. I think that's because of the saddles.

The Silo does come with a piezo as well as an option. Personally, I prefer the feel of a Silo, but the tone of a JP6. The basswood tone is much looser and bigger to me compared to pure alder. That's my main gripe with my silhouette specials. In terms of playability, if you're looking for a shred guitar, the JP6 wins. if you're looking for something more traditional feeling, the silo wins. That doesn't mean you can't do either on both. (I use my silo specs for metal). You will get used to the thin and tall frets on the silo easily. They're not vintage frets, and after a while, you'll not like the jumbos on the Ibanezes and the JP6. The traditional feel of the silo fretboard is very very comfortable. Thats why I've got 5 silhouettes (2 20ths and 3 specs) in total and only 1 JP6. Hahahaha...

I don't know the full pricing, but I believe the silos are a tad cheaper.

The 3.5 i mentioned was when i got it from Brendon, Fully loaded Mystic dream
Fully loaded MD from Sinamex will be 4.8k

Yeah really comfortable guitar to play, the pickup switching limitation can be easily dealt with a push pull pot though. But that said, i still love the 3 existing tones, although i have been thinking about the mod for a long time, there's no rush...

Forearm scoop, yeah, really comfortable. Looks cool too :)

Neck is good what...no?
Just a matter of getting used to it i guess.
Well, i love it...
