Eddie Van Halen's Music Man

Hi all

Stumbled upon this thread the other day and it brought back memories of drooling over Eddie Van Halen's Music Man (ok so I am showing my age here).

So I looked around the shelves and lo and behold... its still there. The September 1991 issue of Guitar World with Eddie (Lord of the Strings) on the cover.

Hmmm. Maybe its time to "Just ask the AXIS". You guys recommend it?

It is essentially still an EVH, but with a different name, different placement of the pickup selector and improved features...

It solved the the slippage problem of the high e, and has a contoured back...

You'll get the same sound on the EVH on your Axis, the inflated price of an EVH is just because it's discontinued and rare...

If I am given a chance to choose & buy, I will take the EVH. Reasons being:

1. Less is more - Simple, one switch plus one volume control.

2. Nothing can beat the position of that pickup selector switch. Imagine you are holding your pick with your thumb and 2nd finger, you can easily execute a swift switch of pup position with a swing of your palm using the remaining 3 fingers - no obstruction! Looking at the Axis, the pup selector switch is somehow blocked by the volume knob.

3. Non-contoured body - this actually provides more meat to project the guitar body out for a better playing position while standing. I speak from experience using my non-contoured Y2D. And the contour may feel "sunken-in" for some. Its not really uncomfortable which are perceived by many people.

4. Chunky neck, good overall desgin.

5. Of cos, the EVH is one hell of an keepsake that truly commemorates EVH's golden moment during the "F.U.C.K./Right Here Right Now" era.

A very original, and outstanding equipment from EBMM.

EVH + EBMM...

Poundcake!!

Bro... The Axis also only one switch and one knob... you thinking of the ASS.

SPANKED!!!

And the EVH neck very hard to play lah... too narrow. I tried one before. Vibrato the high E, and it comes off the neck. Axis easier... I wonder how the man did it...

I was about to ask you what you can score for me for an ASS or Axis actually...

Haha. Ya, ASS Axis same electronic control. I just trying to include all the plus points of an EVH..

ASS? Axis? Many! But I think for best price you go ebay bid. Many good and used items. But if you still want new, tell me the color & trem type you prefer.

Eh... apparently not man... The guys on the forum are saying that the extra tone knob on the ASS impedes the circuit some, and produces a warmer tone. If removed, it becomes much brighter lei...

I want the RW ASS humbucker hardtail... can get?
