I am not a real fan of Lespaul mainly due to my not so strong fingers and the weight of the LP. More of a Strat and a recent ibanez converted fan.
But a recent visit to guitar workshop change my perspective on the LP. They have this Tokai lespaul type guitar hanging there and the very kind boss who insist us to try it even he knows we have no real intention to get it. Upon close inspection, the making is real good almost faultless and to my surprise the weight seems lighter than a Gibson or even the Epi LP.
The Tokai was hooked into a Line6 amp and the sustain was like forever..evveerrr... my perceived impression of the sustain it's even better than the Ibanez that i have. The lespaul neck has never been easy for my fingers but somehow this axe has great playability. I was told it's using 0.9 string but it like .8 to me, easy to do bending and action was just nice n low w/o buzzing. Distortion from this Tokai pickup sound meaty with lots of low end, but i have no idea what PU's are those. It did give me the 'slash' type of sound.
There was a Epiphone LP at the shop and i will not say the same interm of make and sound. But for someone with a budget and wanted a LP so much then IMHO why not?
In short i'm impressed by the Tokai and i do see the probability to own a Lespaul type of guitar oneday when GAS oneday.
Just wanna share my thoughts and 2 cents worth...u should do your own math n see if it worth the extra saving.
Cheers
