The Cardigans - INSANE Pop Prog

You guys should check out the Cardigans - yes, that pop band.

They are mind-blowing.

The guitar work, the vibes, the studio stuff... WOW. I was blown away! I didn't know pop could be so... unique, so ... difficult.

Its technicality in a different aspect, not shredding or insane guitar acrobatics - its vibe! Its composition!

Even their pop hit, LoveFool, I say, their bass line is a stroke of PURE GENIUS. Groove & simplicity, 2 bar riff against a 4 bar, 4 chord riff. Brilliant.. and the fuzz that comes in... the pre-chorus chords & the chords ending the choruses... WOW!

Youtube them I SAY!

heh, you can be good friend with broAgedyouthbro. Cardigan one of the bands he's into.

but the best of them is to check out their rendition of black sabbath songs in their first few albums. Those absolute slay all the usual covers from other bands. Plus theres some really good songs in it.

If you want to check out interesting progressions:

- Judy & Mary has pretty interesting dominant7th/major7th/minor7th/diminished/chromatics in their songs. Guitar can be insane on some parts.
- Guns n Roses has some simple key modulations in their songs, sometimes a bit overdone.
- al.ni.co has VERY interesting solos as well as progressions. J-Grunge, Nirvana style. Remind me to send you next time.
- Jail O'hashi's solos off Seikima II is very interesting. Very hybrid player. You need to watch the videos though to get what I mean.

That's off my current playlist for now.

Yes, The Cardigans rocks my bollocks...

Nina Persson rocks it very hard too..

Ozzy loved their BS covers more than the ones by metal bands.

Actually, Nina Persson has her solo album about 5 - 6 years ago called A Camp. Great stuff. Never got the album but the b-side 'Charlie Charlie' was amazing and the duet 'The Bluest Eyes In Texas' - beautiful as well...

I wouldn't call The Caridigan's songs as... simple... I find them profound from a guitarist & compositional standpoint.

They are actually very... systematic, even calculative in their instrumentation - I'm quite surprised... though some of their Live Youtube vids ah, the guitarist playing has boo-boos that make me (as a guitarist) cringe but heck, I see the performance/vibe/reaction of the audience and I say he's spot on!

Nina Persson has the right voice for the band... its laid back, plaintive and honest. She's hot. Dammit.

I need to buy their albums.

Eh Thor, u and Judy&Mary and that dude who wears face paint! Okay okay... I shall listen. :D

Bro RR bro, lend me leh... The Shiina Ringo ones as well?

Shredcow, pop music is very calculative in its arrangement and instrumentation to gain the maximum emotional impact and resonance. And that mean goes for the Pussycat Dolls as well...

.....and i thought this thread is bout the cardigans coming to town
the guitarist and drummer used to play for some hardcore band before forming the cardigans

 I like ur answer!

I like the Pussycat Dolls... at least they have a good looking singer who can sing on record... live though, she... screams-sings.

acherly good pop music is VERY difficult ones.

not those run off the mill one... cos all the bases are already covered, its damn hard to sound oliginal....

cardigans locks mah borrocks too!

bro TLB bro, I think they used to play in some metal band or something... which explains the Black Sabbath covers. But nice lah. It'd be great to see them live even though they don't do the older songs much anymore...

Shredcow, yup, that is why I is respects the songwriting team like The Neptunes, The Matrix, etc. Goot ar... Milking your heart strings and purse strings as well...
