The Best Jamming Place and The worst...

my personal favourites:

- Ebenex
- *scape
- Fourtones
- Beatmerchants gig room

I used to like L Cube but I haven't been there in absolutely ages.

wee lee at aljuned and simei are alright too actually! not the best for ironing out little details and getting the best sound, but cheap and fun atmosphere

Fourtones and music garage are top of the list for me.

Beat Merchants and Boon sucks really.

i rmmbr my friend mentioned a thing or two abt seng chai.

Friend: "aunty can give double paddle or not?"
Auntie: "no cannot, you dont know how to use."

HAHAHAHA.

and yes i love backbeats and velvet joint. :)
Music Garage is ok too. but it gets kinda hot after quite a while. People will leave the room sweating.

For the west-siders, u guys should check out Soundbites. Its in the toh guan industrial area.. near IMM. Jason provides free transport from jurong east mrt to the jamming studio for those taking public transport.. which i think is great. I love the place as it has good equipment and its very spacious, thus bands can really hav the freedom to move ard and enjoy playing their music.. the last i heard soundbites is going thru a bit of a renovation. Dunno if its completed already at this time. :D

yeah soundbites provide transportation.
now how many jamming studios actually provide this service?
kudos.

on the other hand, maybe the place is kinda secluded.

i think so far, the room with the best equipment, space, and ambience, is SoundBites in Jurong (westside FTW!). only downer is location and price, but the owner is willing to pick you up from jurong east. hows that for service? drums are great (last i came they were using Ks & A Customs), amps are great, even house instruments are above average.

im not sure if many people know abt this place: Ann's at Queenstown. alotta great bands were born there. kinda secluded but felt great playing there. beat merchants, fourtones, l cube, are also worth mentioning.

but on the flipside, alvron, seng chai, boon's front room, x jamming studio's 3rd room, and the rooms at sweelee sims dr when they still had jamming studios. these are rooms that leave little to be desired of.

for me the best is

DAN ENTERPRISE STUDIO- when we are playing there

and the worst is

DAN ENTERPRISE STUDIO - when loud hardcore bands who DONT tune are playing there and I gotta listen to it

My personal, and my band's favourite would be backbeats.
Equipments are well maintained, the owner is a nice chap... though he doesn't seem to speak much, but he's polite and friendly.

My least favourite would be beaat merchants.
Reason... screw up booking dates couple of times, last minute when the band reach the studio we're informed room have changed, equipments are going down down down down.
They used to be good when they just started... but now it's such a shame.

Though I have been jamming for years now, I've tried many sorts of jamming studios around Singapore (although I didn't get the chance to try all)... so here are my personal best/worst and why:

Top 3:
- Soundmix (it's closed now, such a waste... Big room, and great equipment, friendly guy)
- Beat Merchants (decent price, decent location, decent equipment)
- Lee Kwong Seng (decent price, bad location, bad equipment, friendly auntie!, room's quite cramp I must say...)

Worst 3:
- Seng Chai (don't waste your time, unless you're a slow rock/pop rock/easy music player. Heavy metallist should avoid, auntie being VERY unfriendly, just walks in and turn off your amp when the time is up. decent location, BAD EQUIPMENT, BAD AUNTIE!)
- Wee Lee (somewhere very close the Aljunied MRT station, I've been banned there. The uncled labelled us "watched too much MTV". Reason? I don't really know. Just because we wore all black, doesn't mean we play heavy-black-death-gore-satanic-screaming-gothic-metal, if you know what I mean. I actually booked that place, but upon reaching he say "you again? You cannot play here". I think he's looking for nerdy ppl, and jazz players, cause most of his customers are partly old-timers. great location, decent price, well, bad uncle!)
- Simei (I think called Wee Lee also) (overall I hate this place. Although I admit going there a number of times, but I just hate it. The uncle is friendly, the place is ok... but it's just bad for me. Maybe it's the location? It's wayyyyyyyyy to far for me, inaccessible. Great price, bad equipment, bad location)

That's about it...

Oh ya, you guys heard of X-studios? (That's X-Tech studios) It's near Chinese Garden. Should try. I tried once, but not enough for me to judge it...

And, I want to know where is this jamming studio located at Toh Guan... Any address? I don't mind travelling, I just liked to explore more places.

Cheers guys!

FYI: there is 2 jamming studios in jurong east
1. seng chai
2. x-jam studios

seng chai has alraedy closed down
in my opinon its should have been closed a long time ago
the auntie there gives the BIGGEST attitude to jammers
if you guys were saying that seng chai sucked i'll give it a +1000000 to that

Best so far : O'lando at thomson, decent place, clean, neat, not pricey, only issue is that not enough power plugs for pedals.

Nice as well: Music Ensemble at paradiz center's not bad too, nice amps, nice staff, I just don't like the whole daisy rock dealer thing, despite the "no metal" on the wall, they didn't actually care when we played stuff like master of puppets in there, we're a prog speed metal band.

Bad: Beat Merchants, smells bad, smell affects everyone in my band particularly badly, we're all non-smokers, well, smoking turns your teeth yellow, turns your nails yellow, in short, makes you ugly and makes you stink, second hand smoke has that effect too, that also happens to be what beat merchants smells like.

Total SHIT: Boon. The amps are shit, I shall not go on about the staff, the rooms are about the size of my toilet, thats as bad as it is going to get.

Rockerstar
