THe BEst And The Worst...........

jurong point is not possible, rental wise.

boon lay shopping centre nowhere near the mrt, out.

jurong east central,

actually Seng Chai is not that bad la,

I remember first jamming there in 1993 when I was in secondary school with my friends, and at that time the place was manned by Ah Ann( the commonwealth MRT studio /provision shop owner.

Ah an is the nephew of Seng chai, and that lady is seng chai's wife. They have been around for ages, even my dad used to jam at their old studios somewhere else back then.

When we were kids, we were treated like we were kids, because we did not treat their equipment with respect , and at that time, the thrash and metal bands used to break their stuff such as the drums and etc and after a while , seng chai banned thrash bands and bands that were too rowdy.

None of us back then liked SCM(seng chai music) , but after all these years, we sorta grew up together with that place, and the auntie is actually a very nice lady.I have been jamming there regularly (almost once a week) since 1993 and we basically have learnt to respect their equipment and stuff and even have started to treat them with sincere respect, and I must say , that the respect is reciprocated.

Nowadays, when we go there, she is exceptionally nice to us, and she has even helped us out on occasions for trivial matters. She knows us personally and basically we always converse in broken chinese/malay/hokkien and have a few laughs here and there.

So I must say that if we can get special treatment, why can't you?

The only reason I jam there is because of its location and the feel-at-home factor. Equipment wise, I'm sure there are alot of better places though, but to me I love the roland JC 120s and we only book a certain room that has all our favourite working equipment.

Thats why Seng chai gets my vote for the best studio (service wise),together with the toh guan studio(equipment wise)& that new one at cuscaden.

Worst studio would most probably be that storeroom at peninsular, 4th or 5th level, i cant remember, it was along time ago.>reason? STOREROOM

yes we all <3 L Cube. Its my home away from home away from the other home. Its nice to even hang around there. Eq wise. Line 6 guitar amps , harkley bass amps and pearl drumsets.
The keyboard in the suite room belongs to jane though.

Worst i feel that theres no need to mention bad jamming studios. They,ll know when business doesnt come in and they start making losses

well,it's good that the bad are mentioned here..I mean, they need to at least do a good job...and making more people aware here might make them realise that their jamming rooms suck y'know?

I like this thread :smt055

My band recently did a mini jam studio tour to prepare for a big show.

overall we found the Beat Merchant was the studio where we got the best sound. I like the "secret" room upstairs.. like jamming in ur bedroom only with better gear.

Tiet would be ok for bands that are quiet (we aren't). The bass amps there are all lousy tho. (altho i did find that Smarvo guitar half stacks are killer as bass amps when one of my guitar players couldn't make it for jamming!).

Fourtones is not bad, but the room layout means that you kinda get blasted by everyone elses sound so everything ends up really loud and you can't really hear anyone properly.

Boon's well some of the rooms are nice, and Boon himself is a great guy. But the uncle at the inside studio is really grumpy... always complain we are too loud and show the dB meter (which i'm sure is bluff one because he always say we are at 110dB even when we turn down...) Then one day he accuse my drummer of breaking a cymbal (he didn't it was already broken, and all the cymbals were actually hihats anyway). Well that wasn't so nice after jamming there almost every week for 5 years...

Worst studio tho would have to go to Seng Chai... equipment lousy, rooms not nice with all the glass. its almost impossible to hear the vocals there.

Alvron had one good room when they started out... but sounds like never maintain from people comments.. shame..

anyway, Studio's on my list to check out include l-cube and velvet joint. Have heard good things about both.

best for me is L-Cube.... the big room
but then again, abit frustrated when playing the drums.. coz i cant hear the guitars and bass..
the monitor amp only stix to vox and keys.....
but still its the best for me...

worst .. standard ah.... SCM...
hahaha... nowadays after renovations, the sound become suckier...
thicker wood door in place of the glass door..
and the sound, went down... and no double pedals..
geezz.... not contented at all....

and yo jazzlll..... its really great if youre opening a jamming studio in the west....
really looking forward to it...
but word of advice, better not open in Jurong Point
coz later the glass door, security lock, den very troublesome lor...

boon lay shopping ctr myte be good...
but then not realy central....

west side is still best at jurong east.....
make it the same building as SCM, but better be far away from that place.. hahahahahahahahah

Jurong east got SOundbites liaoz.

Make it at CLEMENTI! haha.

Cause the area gonna be SO NICE after renovation. hehe. Below shopping centre, on top is HDB flats. :)

Bukit batok not bad too.

hehehe..

Best - Soundscapre studios. Good space. Had everything and anything you would ever need. Great place to chill and hang about. The people there were awesome. but its defuncted now.

Worst - Its not very nice to mention it. so i wont.
but personally, anywhere that uses a roland jazz chorus in the studio is BIG no no. That amp's just a total turn off man.

Its alwys either good drums + bad amps or good amps + bad drums or goos drums +ok amps +worst PA ....so we settled for Velvet !

F'more the owner ...ol' time fren with nice cozy upper room ...good for setting the mood doin originals :D Looking forward to seeing Velvet upgrading its amps soon .... best drums tho !!

Next would be Fourtones, nice studio especially the bigger room gives good alround clarity so no need to jam too loud. But the smaller room is a kinda just the opposite and worst still if you jam after those *darkness* bands. Can u believe the kids stuff x3 carpets/rugs to get that low thud ....halo el stooopido  and the owner was spewing ...

I have a long list but will end with just one more ...Club Paradise-Blk 144 Tampines st 12, Its below HDB 8O ...its small, good for three or four piece and the owners are friendly....its more of a hang out actually.Good for new bands and fellas living nearby...check it out !!

I have had my fair share of squabbles with studio owners ...some were ugly as back then i had a very short fuse ....so... as for the worst ...you know who you are !!

Joke >>>14yrs ago when my first band started jammin, we were at this stdio frquented by mostly *darkness bands* where the owner said " No punk or hard core ok" !!

best ever: Sound mix productions
(best PA, drumset fully miked, good balanced room sound)

current best- Fourtones (mesa/laney + Nazri = guitarist choice)

Convenient and good if im not fussy- wee lee aljunied and Boons potong pasir

Lcube - very nice and big studio but the line 6 amps are horrible. PA setup could be better also.

Tiet - great equipment, unfortunately the best room sounds very bright. i think its due to the hard walls... should be carpetted le...

Hmm.. I actually like the clean sounds of a Jazz Chorus amp, but the drive on the amp sounds terrible though.. I'm still waiting for a studio to equip their studios with ttwin reverbs or voxac30...

Best for me has many:

[*]Beat Merchants
[*]Four Tones
[*]L Cube

Bad :

[*]Seng Chai Music
[*]Lee Music ( Sembawang Road )
[*]Rhythm Masala ( Sembawang Road )
[*]Alvron (1st 2 rooms)

Worst - Its not very nice to mention it. so i wont.
but personally, anywhere that uses a roland jazz chorus in the studio is BIG no no. That amp's just a total turn off man.

ehhhhhhhhhh fill in the blanks W_e Le_

HAHAHA, first time i went there I sat behind the drums to mess around a few beats. by the end of the bar I wonder why the pedal doesnt move anymore. The beater just tore threw the skin. So i took the tape from the snare and cover it then left

HEHE.
