actually Seng Chai is not that bad la,
I remember first jamming there in 1993 when I was in secondary school with my friends, and at that time the place was manned by Ah Ann( the commonwealth MRT studio /provision shop owner.
Ah an is the nephew of Seng chai, and that lady is seng chai's wife. They have been around for ages, even my dad used to jam at their old studios somewhere else back then.
When we were kids, we were treated like we were kids, because we did not treat their equipment with respect , and at that time, the thrash and metal bands used to break their stuff such as the drums and etc and after a while , seng chai banned thrash bands and bands that were too rowdy.
None of us back then liked SCM(seng chai music) , but after all these years, we sorta grew up together with that place, and the auntie is actually a very nice lady.I have been jamming there regularly (almost once a week) since 1993 and we basically have learnt to respect their equipment and stuff and even have started to treat them with sincere respect, and I must say , that the respect is reciprocated.
Nowadays, when we go there, she is exceptionally nice to us, and she has even helped us out on occasions for trivial matters. She knows us personally and basically we always converse in broken chinese/malay/hokkien and have a few laughs here and there.
So I must say that if we can get special treatment, why can't you?
The only reason I jam there is because of its location and the feel-at-home factor. Equipment wise, I'm sure there are alot of better places though, but to me I love the roland JC 120s and we only book a certain room that has all our favourite working equipment.
Thats why Seng chai gets my vote for the best studio (service wise),together with the toh guan studio(equipment wise)& that new one at cuscaden.
Worst studio would most probably be that storeroom at peninsular, 4th or 5th level, i cant remember, it was along time ago.>reason? STOREROOM
