It's definitely the shiniest rosewood fingerboard I've seen!

well malcolm shined it down for me when i got him to fix up the bass for me after i got it off another bassist, Mark. I tink the maker was called Richard van der Hoeven but his line of basses was named Hoeven Gitaren (i tot that was german for guitar but it would then translate to "Guitarre"..hmn not as catchy a name for him i guess) and my bass happens to be a Leader series. not sure wat "rud x" means tho...anyone out there who can help to enlighten me onit?

The compact anatomy of the bass is actually perfect for me as i was literally wrestling with my previous Status S1 classic every time i played. The sound can be really nice and growly if only the pick-ups are not so worn (the signal is quite weak and not very evenly spread throughout the strings) so i usually need to hook it up with my hartke bass attack and a CS-3 mod that Randolf did his magic on :D

Hey Zhen,
i really like that German bass of yours. Can you point to where I can actually purchase one?

Thanks!

Hi Ken, as i mentioned earlier, i got it off a guy called mark who bought it off sum1 else, so the bass has passed on quite a bit. i looked arnd on the net and found his email richardvanderhoeven@hetnet.nl but aparently it bounced back. mebe u can try to ask this particular guy in malaysia called gim who supposedly made good basses for quite a few singaporeans already. http://www.gimmusic.com/

Yo Zhen :P Kelvin here la. You know i covet your GWB-1! The newer ones from Ibanez i heard have phenolic fingerboards!!!!!!!!! BIG NO NO for the tone, worse for the feel and look... I don't think they was a price drop even though they downgraded Gary's bass... Tragedy sial.

Hi Kelvin  how's things going? heard you r playing at China 1 isit? with firebrands?

I actually feel the same about my status graphite neck which is one with the fingerboard. it's great for tapping coz of the brite and metalic sound but not that cool for other stylistics on the bass. but it can be really good for nu-metal coz the brite tone can really cut through all that "jargon" frm the other guitars..heh

well this is wat i found out in more detail on Phenolic fingerboards

*Phenol is the prime ingredient in Epoxy. Phenolic fingerboards are smooth and slick and feel great on your fingers bu can be "cold and sterile".Phenolic fingerboards will give you about as much tone as a phenolic circuit card. This is not necessarily a bad thing as recording studio engineers seem to like that tone. *

i never got his surname either but beez told me his surname .. so i was like .. "eh.. okay . .i'm not sure whether it's him" .. anyway he didn't specifically tell me which band but i understand he plays for pubs and stuff like that .. .. he was letting go some tacoma acoustic bass that time also ..

Embyro: Thursdays 10pm-12am @ Timbre (Substation)

btw everyone, I'll be playing at Timbre (took over the old fat frog in Substation) every thursday 10pm-12am ++ with Randolf Arriola and Kenny Hogan in Embryo. We'll do both indie/obscure covers that no other cover bands in Singapore would do, and Embryo originals.

Join us on any thurdays! great mood, cool atmosphere, beautiful trees (if you can see in the dark) so pop by and say hi!

Embryo's also playing at Barnone on 27feb for Monday sessions too, see ya there!

cheers
wendy

btw if anyone's wondering wateva happened to my band ZHEN coz we've been so quiet, we're really woodshedding and re-arranging songs now for a fresher and edgier vibe. we'll come out in the open again pretty soon so watch out for posted gigs n a revamped website :)

yup... the bridge is a bit iffy (slides from side to side) so i'll probably change that out for a gotoh or badass II... add in a drop tuner and i'm set! :D

superkicky, you get amazing colors from your photographs. photoshop?
mm bass is lovely

Not really.. Loaded a set of custom curves into my digital SLR, and I shot with natural light... A little bit of curve compensation in Photoshop but that's about it.

The body grain on the 700 is sweet! The tuners on the ATK are 8O though. Do you ever get confused?

cool. i used to do photography with the old school film nikons. manual focus and apeture and stuff. back in m'sia anyway.

the grain looks nicer in real life. if we get a bass gathering i'll bring it along and show u man. done some crazy mods on it too. hmmm what do u mean bout the tuners on the ATK? damn solid bass.

thanks crozzfire. got the mr squishy from kelvin and i'm thinking of bass podxt live.

Haha, I use an FM2 myself but shooting film to take a photo of my bass is a bit overkill.

I'm talking about the arrangement.. usually it's 3 over/1 under or 4 over or 2/2 but your arrangement seems out of the norm... looking at it again I can see how it works though.

hmmm... now that you mentioned it, it does look odd. but it fuctions like a standard 2/2. i think the bottom 2 are reverse tuners.

yeh def overkill unless u wanna do it as a project. u got a photosite up?
