someone mentioned something about jap gear or something

to me there is no systemic difference between guitars made in different continents.

difference in price is just reflective of the manufacturing process. USA and japan have an advantage in terms of production due to the efficiency of their supply lines. this is an advantage they have over 'europe' or rather any country in the EU.

i think you would be screwed in europe because they hardly make anything and freight is so damn expensive.

in japan there is a false belief that high price necessarily signals the quality of a piece of gear, probably due to their willingness to pay alot of money for perceived superiority. if you go to a store in japan you will be hard pressed to find a damn patch cable that costs less than 20 bucks.

some people don't realise that japanese consumers actually value imports more than their home goods. domestic manufacturers undercut the competition as a method of protectionism. this is one reason why fender japan do not allow domestic retailers to sell overseas. imports are sold as a sort of 'luxury' item.

it doesnt help that every ichiro keitaro and kotaro in japan owns either fender japan or ESP, or countless mij 'boutique' pedals. the novelty doesn't exist where it would in US markets, where there is zero marketing or distribution of such goods.

the moral of the story is that if you can buy a mij good within their domestic market, you may get a good deal.

personally, i like japanese culture, society and language, and i have contributed more than my share in 'boosting their economy'. but honestly i hate japanese music and j pop culture.

but i like how their AV stars make the transition into mainstream media and everyone is cool about it :-D and whats with these new faggot ribena smileys. seriously man

i think that agrees with my point - buy a good mij meant for their domestic market by dealing directly with the shop in Japan and pay a little extra to ship it over to sg. - of course, this may probably require you to be able to communicate with them in their native language.

the same applies to other countires that are nearer to sg, so that shipping is not as expensive. a good made in korea or even, a good made in indonesia, etc....

Don't agree with u here dude. Most companies build budget models in countries like China and Indonesia to cut cost. On top of lower production/overhead costs, materials and components are also usually lower grade.

I'm not saying that instruments are better just becos they are made in the US or Japan. That would be colonial mentality. I'm sure Malcolm Tan builds a much better acoustic than heaps of dodgy builders from the US.

But to a certain extent, quality still vary depending on country of origin, as far as your factory production instruments are concerned.

that's how much i paid for my shipping by using vPost, the total charge was $230. but considering that they almost lost my bass...

No soundclips yet, just received the bass this afternoon =)

Considering the scale length (33.5"), the low B is tighter than some 35" I've tried. Also nicely balanced despite the heavy wenge/bubinga neck, thanks fo the ultralites. As with his rep on Talkbass, Chris Stambaugh builds a really good bass for a ridiculously low amount.

Really happy with the Aero pickups too :)

Just wished Davis brought in DR lo riders, not just hi beams. Still trying to get used to the lower tension from the shorter scale length.

Nice spalted maple top!

i need some education here....... what the heck is 5A? I told my 55-94 is 5A quilted. Quilted i know, but 5A?

Nice redwood top. From the shadows of the pic, the action is pretty high for a fretless. How's that doing for your "mwah"? The strings look like flats?

I think its the lighting angle. the action is really quite low.. at least for me. =)

Yupps... those are TI flats. Had to pay extra for it.. but well worth it..
