Cutlass Sound

Hey RottenRamone, your most welcome to drop by and have a play - bring the pre-eb and we can compare. As u know its not a fair comparison to the EB rays, as the four band eq (at least on the younger rays) is very tinny. Compare to my 98 ray, the Cutlass monsters it!... essentially the Cutlass sound has a little more mid range response than the ray. I am really not sure what they were thinking when they launched them (they were about 500 US more than the standard ray on launch) but I am guessing from the sound they were more aimed at rock rather than funk players...This is my second Cutlass, yes I know they are very rare. took me ages to find this guy.

PM me and we will sort something out!

nice rick. i am currently a 1-bass man but if (or rather when) i get a 2nd bass it will be a rick. i think it embodies the kind of tone that i like in a bass.

This arrived not long ago.. :)

arggghhhh why does everyone have EBMM's !!!!! I WANNNNNNT

hahahah.... you know i thought about that before, and why are the stingrays basses so cheap in the US while so expensive in sg?

in the end this is what i thought....

we don't live near the USA, and thus it costs to bring that thing over here.... same thing with warwicks, we don't live in europe and thus it costs extra to bring the warwicks here.

but... we live releatively near Japan and Korea.... so instead of paying extra to get a high quality US or Europe instrument, I could pay the same, and perhaps get an even higher quality Japan made instrument :)

but that's just my personal thinking... hahah :)

Not really mah, I don't think EBMMs are way marked up. For example, the Stingray HH in Honeyburst and Rosewood fretboard is going for $2470 on BGW.

It is listed as US$1540, or SG$2165, on Musiciansfriend. After GST that's about $2315. About $100 as a service charge for bring that in... I think that's really reasonable. :)

AGREED! At least you're not paying Sinamex. The super marked up price.

Sorry for the flame. I just don't like their service period.

The extreme markup is not limited to em though. I haven't shopped for basses for a very long time and decided to make a tour of our local music stores a few weeks ago. Was quickly reminded why I don't shop for basses locally. Both the variety of gear and price markup are ridiculous.

For the prices here, one could order the same bass from the US, pay for shipping and have still have $$ leftover to almost buy another one.

true guys, I've asked BGW before, and his prices are very reasonable, and I wasn't referring to him about the super ridiculous price :) I just dont' want to name the shop that is ridiculous price.

and I share the same woes with you all about local shops variety and prices.

with about $2500 I think can get a very high quality japanese made bass, shipped directly from a shop in japan, so that's why i thought that way.

of course, you cannot compare basses this way because if you want a stingray, then definitely nothing else will do, i know that feeling, it's been haunting me for YEARS!

but i did my own comparison and in shipping + GST....

I'm thinking all our GAS (mine included) are all fueled by listening to a lot of our favourite artists who are majority US or Europe based, who plays high quality US or Europe instruments, and definitely will influence in our purchases of instruments.

No doubt getting them into singapore will cost extra - workmanship and shipping from these countries is expensive, considering the extra distance it'll take to get here, and definitely majority of local shops is a no-no (there are a handfule of local shops who are reasonalbe in their prices).

For me I could speak and write some japanese, and do listen to japanese musicians too, and I'm thinking their instruments they use in japan are really high quality too, and relatively cheaper than a USA or Europe made instrument, and shipping from Japan is pretty ok, and I could converse directly with the japnaese shop to get it to ship to me.

So that was my reasoning for telling myslef if I want to spend some money, perhaps it would be a better choice for me to spend it on a high qualtiy japanese made instrument, than spending extra for a USA or Europe one.

But of course I still GAS for a Stingray and warwick, and i tell myself, maybe if I lived in the US or Europe, or when visiting those countries in future, then perhaps it'll be a better deal then. :)

But this is just my personal thinking,so anyone else is totally right to disagree with me too :)

Actually at S$2.5K, you can ship a barebones Stingray4 from the States. Pay a visit to basscentral.com, they ship worldship and have a ready inventory of Stingrays around US$1.4K+. Shipping would probably be around US$250-300. Exchange rates are in our favour right now. Alternatively, like on someone's earlier post, BGW has a Stringray for less than $2.5K as well.

Honestly I don't mind paying a small premium for buying from a local store becos of factors like warranty, being able to test drive (provided they even have what I'm looking for in the first place!). The most annoying experience in my recent local bass shopping was probably with a local online retailer...

When I first saw the prices, I thought that's quite decent. Even though I won't even have the advantages of getting from a brick and mortar shop, the difference from ordering from overseas was around 10-15%. A mark up I was willing to pay to let him handle the hassle.

That was until I realised that the prices were in USD. Its an SG online store too. Err paying over 50% more to buy from a Singaporean online store vs buying from a US online store? Choice is simple.

Just note when buying from BassCentral or TPB. They only accept Paypal or money order for international orders. And it was a pain for me when i ordered my Bongo. As paypal had a limit on the amount and it was blocked for a couple of days. Good thing I had a friend in the US who was willing to help me pay with his card.

Actually shipping it direct from the US has it flaws too. The weather differences here and there can screw up your neck. Especially if it was set up perfect in the US. And when you take it out. It plays and feels bad... But after a set-up, all's good!

Mmm I never had problems with Paypal though. Just used it like normal credit card payment.

But yes climate is always an issue. I had a Tom Anderson neck go roller coaster on me. But all ur made in US instruments are, well, from the US anyway, bought locally or online.

So I just take it that whenever I buy an instrument I need to do a proper setup anyway. Most local stores won't give a half @r53 bout doing a setup when you buy something in the first place.

I've gotten boutique US basses for much less than production basses off Talkbass :) Good deals are not tied to which classifieds site its posted on. I would rather buy off Talkbass becos alot of the sellers are less dodgy and people there are more likely to know what they are talking about than on eBay. Seen 1 too many total BS ebay scams.

Would u prefer to look for instruments off soft.com.sg classifieds or off ST701?
