Hey urm being a tama fan lol...just like to ask if anyone played the Tama Starclassic Performer before? (100% birch).
About how much will it cost? And also besides swee lee who brings it in anyone else brings in these drums? Was thinking of getting a new set....
sims drive has a set in mocha fade on display now. or it could be a bubinga/birch hybrid. didnt see the price. would estimate for it to be about 4k? the set i played is a full birch and was tuned fairly high. carried a lot of "ooomph!" can feel the attack. but felt a bit dead. notes did not come out well. would be great miced though. not a fan of the starcast mounts. have seen two break so far. only sweelee brings them in.
I just called swee lee just now(the bras branch)...and the cost of the Starclassic Performer (100% Birch) cost 6k++. WTH?
They're selling only 1500usd the most in the US...or at least the online shop i see. Thats bout 2000SGD? Say including....shipping....i add in
600? 2000+600 = 2600SGD.
you could check again. you know they like having fun with their prices and they offering big discounts. take the reference kit they have for example. they're offering 40percent off everyday. they could have made a mistake as well. during the first few rounds of negotiations for my set. they quoted me 1k more than it actually was. i really wouldnt order full kits online. especially if they're like costing thousands. im a better safe than sorry kind of dude.
i dont like the idea of sending thousands of dollars overseas with the chance that it may not even come. many shops i tried did not accept overseas credit cards and required wire transfers before they even gave you and invoice. and then there is shipping. drum damaged on the way then how? you may say send back lah! but often you have to pay for shipping again. had this experience with a dw. wrong sizes but must pay to send back. at least if you order it through sweelee. if got damage can complain to them as opposed to trying to contact some fella overseas. in short i've had a lot of trouble already getting stuff online. heads sticks accessories you name it.
vpost also created heartache for me. i ordered some nick nacks like moongel and impact badges plus sticks. they placed this small stuff in a huge box and charged me 80+ for shipping due to volumetric costs.
for me unless its stuff that i diedie cannot find in sg. say for example.... Taye? i would get it in sg. even with cymbals. dont wanna risk getting it warped or blemished. or in my friend's case. his crash became something like a china. perhaps we were really suay. anyways. do check again. know the full package.its crazy that the performer is more expensive than their star maple kits.
Vpost doesn't box stuff what, it's not their fault.. It's up to you to contact the seller/store you're buying from with your packing requests. All courier companies calculate international shipping the same way.
When ordering from overseas, you gotta decide upfront which is more important to you. The safety of the item VS cost of shipping.
Safety of item - Ask the seller/store to pack as well as possible.
Cost of shipping - Ask the seller/store to pack as compactly as possible.
I've requested solid packing each time and have no casualties to speak of
But I'd think twice about ordering a whole kit from overseas too. There are ways to save cost like removing the hardware and nesting the shells. But unless I know the seller/store knows how to pack it well, I wouldn't go for it.
