SO YOU’VE got your band together, and you’ve finished recording your first album - what now?

For many artistes, getting themselves heard on the radio or even mentioned in the press is a little harder than it looks. Getting your album out is the only the first step in world domination. If that’s your thing, of course.

But why shouldn’t it be? It never hurt anyone to dream big.

It is time to bridge the music to business and make $ense out of it.

A very interesting and enlightening topic. But perhaps is there any advice for us to read up on how to go about getting a manager, especially for bands who are new to the scene.

The best idea to get yourselves a manager is to start off by being your own manager, or getting a friend who knows how to be a bit pushy to be your manager.

Maybe try to make friends with someone doing marketing in poly... get them to make your band their pet project.

If you can do a good job like that then other may sit up and take notice

The question is: is SOFT willing to take up the this role??? Business proposition for you, James! :) I'm quite serious... I think SOFT can do it.

I think you've got to have connections in the industry to be a manager, isn't it?

i agree with this. music is an industry. playing music professionally is a business.

you can have your 'scene' or whatever with music enthusiasts and hobbyists. but where the serious stuff comes in, a reality check is in place.

Yes, pf. I think James has the connections.

James, if you up to it, I'll get you to be my manager - for my first album... Serious!

The media also must support it. I learn from a very experience freelance DJ presenter who work with Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Nowadays, local media do not "encourage" local artist content as they are now toward more "profitable" programme. Even with internet, traditional media is still the main driving force reaching the mass audience. Without media engaging in music, there will be no music industry platform. A couple of years back, some local chinese artist were heavily show on local TVs and radio. It does not matter how good or bad of these artist. Once you hook on it ,the chances you will buy is high. As the sales were good enough, some artist managed to cross over to Taiwan. Of course, many fail as they could not handle the complexity of a(of some) developed music industry.

Also I'm sure you find your friend producing an album and nothing is being done. A thousand of CD lock inside shelf.
