Suhr Guitars

Old thread digger!!!

I bought a Suhr strat (on order) last year, but could never bond with it no matter how I hard I tried. So I sold it away. Recently I bought a used mid-80's MIJ Fender strat just because I like the feel of the neck! I did some serious mod on it, and now it plays, feels and even sounds better than my previous Suhr. And overall cheaper too. To me, it's a real keeper. So IMO, not all booteek guitars are necessarily good or suitable for you. ;)

I get your point. But honestly, if I wanted a player and a workhorse, I'd just get a Fender, and mod the shit out of it (Or a Musicman Silhouette Special also good). If I wanted to buy a boutique piece, then it'll mainly be for collection's sake...

Same here... I'd also rather get several workhorse instruments below $1K, but if its between 1-2K I would still take it onto the road. Any higher and I'm gonna keep it for studio recording purposes.

Samick??? You gotta be kidding me. No doubt Samick guitars are good (I own one, pre-Greg Bennett all-mahogany acoustic), but at the prices they're light years from in the league of PRS...

If I wanted a custom, though, I'd call up Kxk or Schroeder. I'm not willing to pay $5K for a mass-produced PRS or Taylor.

Suhr, Tyler, DeTemple, Nash, PRS Single cut, etc, are all variations of Fender & Gibson, the originator. They just made it more exclusive, better materials, parts, electronics & an Apollo 13 space rocking price.

To each is his own.

He is kidding you...

come to think of it, I haven't touched a Samick in years...back when I first did, I hardly knew how to play the guitar. Nostalgia...

If I'm not mistaken, there's a long waiting list for DeTemple. That's one reason for its exclusivity. Those crazy ang-mos who own them at TGP seem darn proud of it! :p

Detemple's wait list of two years is not that bad, try Driskill, people can wait up to 3-5 years for one piece.

Other than the waiting time, the price is also a sticking point. DeTemple is roughly priced at a minimum US$6000, and after the average optional add-ons and shipping, you can expect to pay US$7000 (about SG$10,000) and above. But the interesting thing about "high quality exclusivity" is when the luthier retires, passes on, or the business (and brand) closes down permanently, the value of their guitars will increase substantially because not many were made. And if a famous guitarist starts using it, the value may increase many folds. Just like the "D" or "T" amp.

I like Anderson... cos of their website... too fricken cool and lots of eye candy.

I think TA's made a lot of sales off the quality of their website.

With the exception of video/audio clips, the number of high resolution studio photos of their guitars really creates the GAS needed for impulse buys.

But very nice playing guitars when you actually try them ... I have to say.

I think a lot of small-scale luthiers/builders neglect the marketing power of a good website; many recognise the fact, but are just to busy building guitars/amps to set aside time and finances to address the issue.

totally agreed. thats where some marketing budget is required for a fulltime webmaster/photographer/copywriter for a successful online business.

After so much marketing you should include a phonetics guide/FAQ for your pedal in the literature. I think it'll be a hit.
